Winning a Guinness World record for “most cover-featured video game”, featuring Assassin’s Creed II on 127 different magazine covers in 32 countries, is ovbiously something any publisher would shout about. So let us see what Ubisoft and the people at Guiness World Records Gamer’s Edition have to say. Then see what they’really saying…
(Alain Corre managing director EMEA at Ubisoft.)
“The worldwide interest for the brand, coupled with the energy and creativity of our press team made for a winning combination” – Look at us: we could sell ice to Eskimos.
“I am proud of receiving this Guinness World Record.” - It’s kinda cool, I suppose. A BAFTA would be nicer. Even bigger Assassin’s Creed II sales would be better. A pat on the back and fistful of Benjamins would be best.
(Gaz Deaves, Editor of Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition)
“The evidence submitted by Ubisoft was extremely thorough, with full details of every publication that featured the game.” - I can’t believe they went to all that effort just to get this framed certificate. We truly live in an age of achievement whores.
“It’s been a pleasure researching this category and we were pleasantly surprised that Assassin’s Creed II took the record – I’m sure plenty of commentators (including myself) would have predicted another well-known game winning the title instead.” – You know, I hung on until the last minute for that Bubble Bobble Neo entry. Why did you fail me Taito, why?
“This achievement is even more impressive in view of the other 2009 releases that Assassin’s Creed II was able to beat.” – Slightly less impressive in view of the number of actual entries. But let’s focus on the positives!
