Borderlands shares traits with the MMO genre in its structure, but not its longevity

8 hoursBorderlands shares traits with the MMO genre in its structure, but not its longevity. The game ends at around the 30-hour mark, once you’ve toppled every sidequest, augmented your arsenal to the max and beaten the main storyline. Still, there’s a way this game could go on indefinitely – how? By raising the level cap and constantly feeding new content into the game, through MMO-style expansions.

This (admittedly unlikely) scenario would sell the game to a much wider audience, I think. At the moment, players are reaching the end by the 20-hour mark when really, the class system could be extended beyond this, while new, more powerful creatures would keep many players engaged over a long period of time. I’ll wait for the MW2 storm to pass before playing this again. Unfortunately, that may be a while.
