Where did Xbox Originals go wrong?

E304_EliteOverlookThe other day, I had a hankering to play Halo 2 – being the indulgent idiot I am, I decided to purchase the game on Xbox Originals. It took me all of three seconds to remember that it isn’t actually on there, which is still remarkable given the staggering amount of revenue that’d inevitably come with reissuing it.

This isn’t the only omission, though. Which are the most incriminating absentees on Xbox Originals? From my point of view, if Microsoft was never going to take the service too seriously to begin with, what was point of even launching it? Halo 2 is just one of many games that should be available for purchase, but isn’t.

having every single xbox game up for download would be a big step for all games coming out for download, which would really annoy me and my 20G hardrive, why does every single good game have to come out for download, is it that hard to keep a disc in playable condition? not all of us can afford 120G hardrives. i say the option would be nice, but its not one thats desperatly needed.

I’m not likely to ever download any since I have all the games I want on disc, but eventually you won’t be able to get hold of them on disc, or at least not easily so the entire collection needs doing eventually. It’s the same story on PSN too so Microsoft aren’t the only offenders.

Doesn’t bother me, I’m kind of anti download anyway at the moment. That is until the industry has a massive rethink over their pricing structure. At the moment you’re paying a premium for less stuff (i.e. no packaging, no booklet, case or disc). I’m all for being non materialistic and everything but not until prices come down to reflect the cost savings that come with supplying digital-only copies of games. At present its just a profit-increasing exercise in my opinion.
