Saints Row or GTA?

Though a little late, a thread on our forum essentially turned into a GTA vs. Saints Row argument, this week. Frankly, I fall on the side of GTA – but this is a bigger argument than comparing GTA IV and Saints Row 2 on their basic qualities. How, fundamentally, do you feel about the direction of both franchises? Going forward, which open world series looks more appealing to you?
Share your thoughts: is GTA no longer the silly fun franchise of yore? Do you think Saints Row has the monopoly in this area?
Or, is GTA actually still the mightiest franchise on any format, in terms of amusement and ambition? SHARE! I plan on wedging this in the mag, somewhere.

this has really made you think. plus it breathed some life into those dead forums.
I think saints row is the best as it has the fun factor as well as a good story and there are more ways in which a gamer like myself can have fun with it rather than the seriousness of gta where you dont get a sense of fun.
I’m glad it stirs up debate – nobody seems to fall on one side, which is a positive thing. People acknowledge the good points of each series.
in that case i vote saints row 2, just because im enjoying it now more than i ever did GTA 4.
I have to agree. GTA was a fun game, worth it’s due, but the multiplayer wasn’t significant enough to keep me playing, and after finishing the story and maybe a couple of hours of Free Mode then it’s all done. Saints Row 2 just kept me going. Although zany, the side games were fun enough that I actually finished them all, and even the minor things like vehicle surfing were good for a laugh. Saints Row 2 has got to be the most insane game i’ve played (Except Katamari, but thats in a league of it’s own), it just has that factor that makes you want to play it more.
