If one thing can be taken away from this years E3, it’s that neither Sony or Microsoft are prepared to go down without a fight. The fact that now publishers like Activision are getting in on the act just shows how only now are we beginning to see rifts throughout the games industry.

With rumours of new consoles, price drops and those crazy motion controls it feels like the console industry has now finally changed. No longer will there be life cycles of a few years. Microsoft and Sony have invested far to much money into their boxes to back out now. What we are seeing is changes to the hardware and updates via software included in things like Natal. You know, I would not be surprised if we are still playing the 360 four or five years from now. Who knows what Microsoft could add via some hardware upgrades. Even the N64 did that (ah, those were the days).

So, the cycle has been broken. If things hadn’t had changed, we would be gearing up for the launch of a new console already! Think about that, and forget all this rubbish about the tech being ‘maxed out’, we’ve yet to see the best of any of the current consoles.
This war just got a whole lot more interesting…
