No Blu-ray For the 360

You don’t need Blu-ray… according to Microsoft
Rumours resurfaced recently surrounding a Blu-ray add-on for the 360 that would bring it pretty much in line with what the major competition offers. These rumours were quickly dashed by Microsoft’s mouthpiece Major Nelson on his blog, and it’s clear that the big M is angling the 360 much more heavily towards digital downloads and the streaming of hi-def content.

And that’s all well and good too, if it’s movies you’re interested in, but games still come on discs – for the most part – and no one can deny that the massive storage space that Blu-ray offers wouldn’t benefit the 360. Microsoft has always been quick to point out that developers can make games just fine on the traditional DVDs.

The point is, it seems Microsoft thinks that Blu-ray is an addition that would just overcrowd the 360, especially when Live can provide hi-def movies and content. While it would be a nice add-on for the few people that would trade up – not that many did it for the HD DVD drive – it really is a bit redundant.

Yes, but HDDVD was competiting with the much more popular bluray at the time, so sales of the blu ray drive would surely be higher than that. Plus the digital movie downloads are limited by both range and copy protection restricting you to watching them on a 360.
If it meant that I caould get a version of the with better graphics or that the game was longer then I would get it depending on the price. I think 60-100€ for the drive and the games at the same price as the DVD versions or mabey a fiver more if it’s extra content as opposed to improved graphics
