Modern Warfare 2 Exclusive Console

Microsoft’s Major Nelson and Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling at a recent LA event revealed that a new SKU of the 360 would be making its debut alongside the release of the incredibly popular Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The special edition Modern Warfare console will come with a copy of the game (obviously), two controllers and, most importantly a whopping 250GB hard drive. The SKU will go on sale the same day as the game and will retail in the States for $399. There’s been no confirmation on the price of it in Europe. You’ll only be able to buy the special edition sku at GAME or Gamestation. The recently announced sku for the 360 with the 250GB hard drive will be retailing at £249, it seems reasonable that the Modern Warfare pack would only be the price of the game more than this.

“It’s the highest compliment to the team and our fans to have a special themed Xbox 360 console,” explained Vince Zampella, CEO of Infinity Ward. “The precision and detail that’s been put into the console captures the intensity and feel of Modern Warfare 2. We can’t wait for our community and fans around the world to see for themselves on November 10.”

What’s perhaps most shocking (or annoying) is that the shiny 250GB hard drive is currently exclusive to the console and there has been no indication that this will change in the near future. Hopefully it will be at some point. Microsoft can’t keep a hard drive that size and not sell it separately. How long it’ll keep it exclusive to the console will probably depend on the popularity of the new model, and if the hype and expectation surrounding Modern Warfare 2 is anything to go by it’ll be a long while yet.

Are game-specific SKUs like this worth the money? After all, there’s even an ODST one ready to be released. If you already own a 360 will these represent a tempting purchase?
