Hellboy Director “does” Games

Guillermo Del Toro, director of Hellboy and the award-winning Pan’s Labyrinth fame is making his debut into the games Industry.
Already a self-confessed fan of video games that include Shadow Of The Colossus, Ico and the Grand Theft Auto IV engine (but not GTA IV itself) , the man who recently pulled out of The Hobbit movie went on record with MTV to say that he already has more than one game in the pipeline:
“One of the things we’re announcing in the next few weeks is a big deal with a big company. We’re going to do games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting. It’s not a development deal. We’re going to do it. We’re doing them. And we’re going to announce it soon enough.”
As far non-committal statements go that one’s pretty nebulous, and you have to question what exactly was on Del Toro’s mind when he says he’s going to “do games”, “do it” and then takes a step too far by saying they’re “doing them”. But more of his kind of creative influence in game could “do” the industry a lot of good. So whether his upcoming announcement includes the Hobbit game he’s talked about in the past or something from any of the major studios, including Irrational’s new “Icarus” project, that people have speculatively tied him to, we’re looking forward to it.
