Halo 3: ODST ships 2 million units, that’s a lot of nuts!
Halo 3: ODST has managed to ship a staggering 2 million units in the few days it’s been on sale. That’s worldwide mind you, but something Microsoft and Bungie should be very proud of. To put it in perspective ODST managed to reach the 2 million mark over the course of a few days, while PS3 exclusive Killzone 2 has only managed to sell around that number full stop. That’s an incredible achievement for a game that started out life as a simple add-on.

What is it exactly about the Halo games that has people crawling over themselves to get their hands on them. I’d like to offer an opinion… poor old Killzone 2 is an excellent game. It has some of the most drop dead gorgeous visuals seen on a console and in these stakes can kick Halo round the playground all day. What Bungie and Microsoft do have over any other publisher and developer (once you remove all characters, plot, weapons, etc) is an incredibly addictive multiplayer, backed up by the most comprehensive and easy to use online multiplayer portal to ever be developed. Xbox Live is the reason Halo can continue to be a success, that’s not to take anything away from the single player, plot, graphics etc, these are all clearly of a high standard, but it’s the multiplayer that keeps people returning. If Live wasn’t integrated as well as it is, you’d end up with something like Killzone 2, which has a large number of dedicated players, but that’s all.

If Sony ever manages to standardise the PSN experience they may gather the same sort of numbers as Live and Halo. But, until then, Live is the only place to go if you want to play online.

i still dont have this. i need it. now
err excuse me, but PSN is free and the best online game i’ve ever played is Warhawk. I’ve also experienced as many glitches on Live as PSN so Live just isn’t worth the price tag. I do have ODST but i’m never likely to take it online, I like Halo for the campaign and that alone.
Yes, but you can’t deny that Live feels like a better experience, with it incredibly easy to jump straight into a game, and the majority of players having headsets. The price tag of Live is well justified for the standarised experience it gives, though that doesn’t stop it or the PSN being a bit buggy every now and again.
