Half-Life 2 Episode 3: who cares?!

In the wake of Valve dismissing the rumours of Half-Life 2 episode 3 being revealed as the “surprise” replacement for Portal 2 at E3, there are three reasons why we just don’t care about this sequel any more.
Reason 1: It’s been three years
Three years have passed since the second episode of Half-Life 2 was released: an acceptable length of time to wait for an original IP or even a full-blown sequel, but this is a third iteration of souped-up episodic content, and Valve has lost any momentum it might have had in this protracted window. Even the most partisan Half-Life fan will feel their loyalty tested.
Reason 2: We don’t get it any more
Things began to unravel in Episode 2 and not to our liking either. We can’t nail exactly where it lost its way, but by the time the climactic ending with Alyx crying and Dog coming to the rescue came around, we had no idea what this game was about any more. Just tell us who G-Man is, dammit.
Reason 3: It’s just too old
Source, as sexy as it was back in 2004, is old. We admire Valve for creating a piece of technology as innovative and as efficient as this engine, but it’s time to retire it from triple-A service. Episode 3 may still arrive to a fanfare sometime in the future, but at the very least it will need a new engine to capture our imagination.

Umm… I care. The Half-Life games are probably the greatest FPS series of all time. They have a great story, good voice acting, and excellent gameplay.
It is a hell of a lot better than any Call of Duty or Halo game at least.
I really hope this is done jokingly.
If not you have many misconceptions about Half Life as a series, the fanbase and the Source engine. (Left 4 Dead 2 is outdated by the way, explains why people hate it so much)
I am one of those Half-Life partisans.
My loyalty is being tested. At the breaking point, more accurately. I loved all of Half-Life, but I am on the verge of genuinely not caring about the series anymore. It’s been too long since there was news of ANY kind and this too cute by half crap coming out of Valve regarding Ep3 is maddening.
Sounds like you should replace the word “we” with “I” because I sure don’t feel that way.
troll
gotta be one
How is an old engine your third reason to not care about the game? You don’t even know what engine the game will be using because we haven’t seen it yet. Just because it’s Half Life 2: Episode 3, it doesn’t mean it’s going to be using an old engine. Like you said, it’s been 3 years.
Stop trying so hard to get attention and do some proper journalism.
I agree with Lyle. You should change it from “We” to “I”
Oh gimme a break! I know that valve take an insane amount of time to launch their games but ultimately when the games come out they are nothing short of extraordinary. I don’t think about Half-life series everyday of my life but it doesn’t mean that i am not waiting for the next installment in the series. Half-life and half-life 2 weren’t ordinary games by every standard and i am sure that anyone who has played those games will be curious(to say the least) about the next installment in the series.
P.S.- This series is way better than COD or Halo or Battlefield and is worth waiting for.
