Gears Of War 4 – It Could Be Coming
Gears Of War 3′s executive producer might not have said the actual words, but anyone with a knowledge of the series sales and an ability to read between the lines will know there’s still more to come from the Gears series.
Given the ridiculously high sales of the previous two games in the Gears Of War series, and the fact that Gears Of War 3 already has close to 1.4 million pre-orders in America (that’s some 600,00 more than even Modern Warfare 3) then it shouldn’t really come as any surprise that there’s likely to be a Gears Of War 4 in the future. But still, it’s nice to hear industry professionals confirming the potential existence of such titles nevertheless.
Speaking to VG247 at this year’s Gamescom, executive producer of Gears Of War 3 at Microsoft, Chris Kimmel, said, “Gears is a huge universe that Epic has built. Not only the game, but in the US, we also have comic books and novels that talk about different characters. For example, Jace is a new caharacter in Gears 3 that came from the comic books. So there’s a rich universe there, there’s plenty of potential to do more, but right now we’re only talking about Gears 3.”
So there you have it. Kimmel might not have mentioned new titles directly, sticking to the PR line of books and comics and other such transmedia, but anyone with a knowledge of the sales and an ability to read between the lines can easily extrapolate from this that Microsoft isn’t done with the series, and we can likely expect more in the future.
So, Epic could be working on Gears Of War 4, or it could even be working on a spin-off in a new genre. Perhaps even a new studio could be drafted in to give a fresh perspective.
