As we all know, Japanese RPG giant Square Enix purchased Eidos a little while back, giving the publisher control over the Tomb Raider, Hitman and…er, Kane & Lynch properties, as well as Eidos’ solid stock of in-house developers. Still, we didn’t know they were planning on merging the two European operations into a single outlet, known as Square Enix Europe.
According to a report on Gamesindustry.biz, Eidos CEO Phil Rogers will maintain his position at the head of the new European publishing arm. Jobs will apparently be lost through overlap, while all US distribution of Eidos products will revert to Square Enix’s US office.
For us, it’s a little weird – it means we’ll be talking to the company about Mini Ninjas and Final Fantasy XIII in the same breath – but most of all, we wish those who lose their jobs as a result of the merger all the best.
