Do You Still Buy Boxed Titles?
90% of games bought in America are still purchased by a person at a store…

If you do, you’re in the majority. Recently, Gamasutra conducted a study into the habits of American gamers – not a market particularly averse to change – coming up with the rather remarkable statistic that 90% of games bought in the territory are still purchased by a person at a store. Or over the internet via mail order. Which doesn’t quite preserve the charm, but still.
This news got us thinking somewhat, and it turns out the popular narrative busting research turns out to be true. Only the two GTA add-ons troubled our virtual purse strings this last year; and only then for the obvious reason of wanting to experience Rockstar’s genius before everyone else. Had the option been immediately available to pop down the road and skip all the way back, we’d probably have taken this method.
So, dear reader, have you adopted the world of zeroes and ones with open arms, or does a small part of you still rankle at having to pay approximately similar prices for content that costs its publisher significantly less to put out?

The advantages of downloads currently don’t out way the disadvantages whilst the advantages of discs do, or at least for videos and games.
Something happened two months before Xmas that i had never taken into account which changed my opinion about this subject!
My 360′s disc drive BROKE!!! It just up and obnoxiously refused to play any disc of any kind. Which left me thinking “You can’t break a Digital Download” They can be stopped or corrupted obviously, but compared to a disc drive can be fixed rather painlessly.
I pondered this over the next two months as i replayed Monkey Island (playing the full game twice in row one night) a few other Arcade titles but mainly spending my time in Liberty City. I purchased GTA4 from Games on Demand as i was half way through Nico’s story again and TBoGT was out in the not far away future and i HAD to play it. I also sold my GTA disc to my mate so recoup some lost cash and so we could play multiplayer! Till i got my new 360 at Xmas
The fact that GTA now takes up over 10GB of my hard drive on it own and the less than competative nature of the Games on Demand pricing system, are the main reason i haven’t employed this system again. Well other than the fact that 90% of the games on there that i’d be intreasted in i already own on disc!
Anyway a rather longwinded way to make my 2 main points, Dis drives break and two months in Liberty City isn’t as great as many might think!
I just dont think the 360′s have a big enough harddrive on them for storing all the digital downloads, I dont like the fact that when my HDD is full I would have to remove some of my old content ( I know I can redownload it again but what a hasstle that would be!)
With Discs I can have as many as I want and not worry about running out of space ( well ofc my DVD cabinet could get full up LOL)
Give me a 500gb + Harddrive to slap on my 360 or allow me to use internal PC SATA drives then I might reconsider!
