I tend not to use the word ‘conundrum’ if I can help it (it reminds me of the end of Countdown), but DLC hasn’t yet evolved to the point where its release – no matter how significant, like GTA IV’s Lost and Damned pack – is hyped to the same degree  as the major release of a game

Sorry, but I’m more excited about the upcoming DLC, Ballad of Gay Tony, than I am about all of this year’s major releases. What do you think? How can publishers get gamers excited about DLC?Do people think highly enough of DLC to prioritise it over a new release, or have publishers made consumers wary of value in this regard? I think your average gamer doesn’t put a thought into DLC when buying a game. I know I don’t. I do keep an eye open for it, but even games that I really enjoy – Fable 2 for example – don’t always warrant my changing of money into space-currency.
