Though this year is more packed with new games than the thousands of news stories on slipping release dates would suggest, for Sony and Microsoft, it’s a fairly tame holiday period in terms of exclusive software. Next year’s last quarter promises to be exponentially more interesting. Here’s my estimation of what each of the major platform holders will release, exclusively on their platforms, around this time next year. Remember, this is small part fact, big part guesswork:
Sony:
- Resistance 3
- New MotorStorm/WipEout title
- The Last Guardian
- Agent
- A big, new IP from a triple-A dev using the Wand controller
Microsoft
- Halo: Reach
- Fable III
- Gears of War 3
- Milo & Kate and Natal
Now, much of this is reliant on developers maintaining the two-year development cycles that were used on previous installments. Still, were these the line-ups, who would come out on top? Surely at this stage alone, we can agree it’ll be more thrilling than the holiday 2009 release schedule?

i think its much to early to be making these kinds of comparisons, but looking at these titles, microsoft will win by a good margine.
Most people will only buy 2 or 3 of the big exclusives coming out next year so it’ll work out the same. I do hope there’s a new gears next year and that Resistance brings back full story co-op (like 2 should have had in my opinion) if they do plan on a third outting.
