Yes, I know it’s old, but the re-appearance of one of gaming’s greatest ever heroes can’t happen without even a word. Okay, we’re aware that it’s just Sega trying to drum up interest for a nonchalantly recieved racing game by bringing out one of the big guns, but it’s Ryo, people. Ryo!
Seriously, it’s all a bit of a tease, isn’t it? The fact he’s going to appear in Sonic & Sega’s All-Star Racing not as some caricatured, big headed avatar but a pretty contempory character model has fuelled rumours of a Shenmue 3. Like, of course, the creation of many buildings, people and gameplay mechanics wouldn’t be necessary to bring a fabled third entry to life. One the lead character’s done, the rest just sort of slots into place, right? Wrong.
In summary, we don’t know whether we’re happy Sega still acknowledge his existence, or miffed that they’re clearly toying with our emotions to make us buy a game we’ll probably be done with in an hour. Our relationship with Shenmue is complicated, see…
