Fable III First Details

Now, where’s that stupid dog?
X10 has kicked off and Microsoft celebrated with Peter Molyneux finally unveiling Fable III to the world. Showing the crowds of baying journalists at X10 the first footage, it’s clear Fable III isn’t quite the revelation Molyneux had hinted at with his ‘all lot of people are going to be pissed’ talk. Albion is looking very Dickensian though and the gameplay demo highlighted just how different the gameplay is attempting to be.
With Natal being used to add motion control to accompany the standard controls it’s not a complete overhaul but should give the Fable world an added degree of connection.

Starting out as a nobody, descended from your Fable II character, you have to begin your rise to power that will eventually see you rule the land. Who you decided to help and make promises to along your journey will make up around 50% of the game. Once in power you’ll have to manage the expectations of all the little people who will no doubt come knocking on your door asking for a ‘favour’.

It’s a unique setup but how far can the ‘consequences of your actions’ card be played before that too becomes slightly cliched? There will be a greater degree of connection between players and the world this time with the right trigger acting as an ‘action’ button. Touching your wife, or family to comfort them will give players the ability to interact directly with the characters that mean the most to you. These will be context sensitive and knowing what Molyneux is like will allow for some interesting scenarios.
Can Fable III continue the lessons learnt in its predecessor?

Only now getting into fable 2, so knowing fable 3 is just around the corner is good news for my Albion cravings. I hope natal can be used in the job quests instead of the push-the-button-when-in-the-green-bit sections.
