The trickle has turned into a stream and now the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010 is showing its true colours…

When the original Crysis was released on the PC you needed a monster of a rig to come even close to playing it as it should. Even today, most PCs haven’t caught up with Crytek’s behemoth of an FPS. But it’s been hard at work tweaking its engine, streamlining and perfecting it, and now it’s finally begun teasing the sequel. Thank goodness it’s coming to the 360…

Crysis 2: Pushing Boundaries...

Releasing a few teaser trailers at Gamescom and showing some 360 gameplay on the show floor, it’s about time we all started paying Crysis 2 some attention. There is some serious tech at work; stuff developers thought wasn’t possible on the 360. If only in the gameplay department, Crysis 2 will push the 360 to its absolute limit. The longer a console is around the better developers become at harnessing the power within, but the leap that Crysis 2 is promising to take could make the 360’s first-gen games look like last-gen ones.

Just check out these PC shots of the original to whet your appetite…

Crysis 2: Pushing Boundaries...

The nano suit your character wears is an integral part of the Crysis experience and gives the player the tools to compete against overwhelming odds. The whole structure of the gameplay centres around the management of your core abilities, such as speed, strength, stealth and armour. With advanced AI and jaw-dropping visuals, the original game set the benchmark so high that anticipation for the sequel is huge. But there is only one drawback, and that’s the 360 itself. It all depends on whether or not the engine can run on pre-existing, four-year-old hardware. If it can get that right, this could potentially dwarf everything on the 360. Not that we’re excited or anything…

I really wish this was a PS3 exclusive. We would have a chance to see what that thing can really do.
