Mass Effect 3's long-awaited Extended Cut DLC has gone live

Postby hollywooda on Tue Jun 26, 2012 9:33 am

Mass Effect 3's long-awaited Extended Cut DLC has gone live on Xbox Live Marketplace.

The free 1.85gb file can now be downloaded straight to your Microsoft console machine using the magic of your whizzy broadband internet connection.

BioWare has said Extended Cut "does not fundamentally change the endings, but rather it expands on the meaning of the original endings, and reveals greater detail on the impact of player decisions."

You'll need a save file from (spoilers - avert your gaze!) just before the attack on the Cerberus base to trigger all this new content.

Other platforms will also get the Extended Cut DLC today, with the sole exception of the PlayStation 3 in Europe.

Just beaten the Kai Leng bit and nothing new so far.... 1.85 gig of additional stuff should bulk it up a load though at some point.

Yer i WAS hoping i could just download this & watch it, but you have to play the end from the begin of the The illusive man's room.

But I'm back on earth & carving through it, knocked the difficulty down I was Pissed enough there wasn't an achievement for finishing this on Hardcore the first time!..

I watched it on Youtube, I could not be bothered with the thing.

I'm not going to say a word.

Oh, wait, yes I am.

I wouldn't waste data on it. But that's just me.

If you wanted to just watch it, why didn't you just Youtube it?

It's all a bit pointless really. Then again I can only think of a few directors cut movies that were better than the original.
Hope the moaning fan boys are happy.

For added cut scenes it's 1.85gig, this is 3 or 4 times the size of the Skyrim DLC, which will doubtlessly be about 10-20 hours long. Seems odd.

Marb, is it literally a new vid at the end? and are there different ends depending on what choice you make?...

Not quite Holly.
SPOILER-ISH (need to have finished the game originally to read on)

The material is spread from when you attack the beam (just before the Citadel denoument). Its drip fed stuff (a few more cinematic shots of attacks, interlinking stuff), then the lions-share comes after you make your choice. Its a series of new cinematics all of which are meant to make you feel warm and fuzzy. Some work, some really dont.

Think the end of Fallout when you see the consequences of your actions.

I did it on the red flavour ending but ill but trying the synergy one with my other character at some point.

Hope that helps mate. Personally id just do it for shits and giggles.

Here's a link to all of the extended endings, now there exactly the same as the Deus Ex Human Revoltuions endings -

Wouldn't consider it long-awaited.

Maybe "waited". No "long-"

Probably "a bit-awaited"

I played Mass Effect 1 & 2 over and over again. I have played ME3 once. I gotta say that the last one wasn't what I hoped it would be but it pissed on the promise of the other two too much. Don't think I'll be bothering with it much in future.

They should of made two really strong games, Mass Effect 3 is a case of too much bread not enough butter. :(

Naaah I actually thought that they diluted the characters down too much. I had fun chatting with Mordin Solus in Mass 2 and Garrus in both 1 & 2. Wrex was great in 1 as well. Tali was good in 1 but really bloomed in Mass 2. Walking with her in her fathers ship and defending her from the admirals on the return whilst she begged for her fathers research to be kept secret was a truly difficult choice and the actress really conveyed the importance to her. In number 3 it was just destroy geth/ destroy Quarians. With virtually no feeling put into either choice. It was an empty gesture.

In 3 it was just lip service paid to most of the characters. It really became almost a generic space shooter with a few lines of supposition thrown in.
