Strict no-no for me. I want to hold something in my hand and see it there and its mine and no-one elses (for a spell anyway). I could be talking about Tommy Trousersnake but no, I love my discs and manuals and freebies that you sometimes get (Thank you Witcher 2 you were the kindest game ever btw) and I will probably stay where I am should next gen be disc-less.

Internet is too spotty for me and I have looked at some of those prices of G-O-D games and frankly I would prefer to nail my cock to a wall than pay those prices.

I'm sure Microsoft will be severely unbothered by little old me saying that.
My conviction is born to damn the fuckers who doubted me. To rise to great heights even beyond my own legend as a Great Cocksmith, Master Pintsman, and stunningly handsome Prince of Light in these dark Dark Ages!

I remember reading an article about whether something you purchased is truly yours when you download it or whether it is more of a rental to be deleted when finished with. If I own it, I'd like to be able to put it on a shelf and not lose ownership of my games the minute my internet connection cuts out or I wanted to play one of my games at a friend's house.

One thing, I'd imagine the size of the file you download will be much bigger.

Yeah true that, probably most games will be at least 7Gb+.

Still wouldn't bother me too much though.

There'd have to be some serious re-thinking from ISP's concerning caps on our Download limits. If it's 7 GB a game you can say goodbye to your Online play.
Anyway, I'm going to wait it out and see how much grief we're going to put up with from the consoles and publishers before I worry about next gen.

I don't know if the file sizes would be that much bigger. I can see it happening with certain types of games but open world games, such as, Dark Souls, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2 are only 4 to 5 gbs each. That still leaves plenty of room for improvement and the ability to stay under the 8gb mark. Bethesda reduced Skyrim down to 3.9gbs whilst getting more content in there than anything they've done before. Dark Souls and Far Cry 2 also have multiplayer so I don't see how that effects file size either.

La Noire is available on Xbl and its a 6.67gb download; disc version totals in at around 20gb. I don't know if there are further downloads but I think the file size would be smaller anyway. I mean, there is one lot of city data on each of the 3 discs whereas by download it would only need one lot.

Would I be happy going disc less. No. I like physical media and new titles on xbl are ridiculously priced. When it comes to older games I wanted to play but never got round to. I don't mind paying a bit extra to dl them because I know they'll work.

That's a fair point for this gen Eli, but for next gen? I think the size of the games to download will be quite a bit bigger. It's not just about the actual size of the game world, but with the better graphics and such.

Skyrim could have a 2gb textures and graphics update like what was done with Bf3 and it would still only be around 6 gbs. Which would bring it level with the Pc version. Todd Howard even said if there was stuff they wanted to do in Skyrim but couldn't due to current console hardware, Skyrim wouldn't have been made until next gen.

I don't know mate. I just think its a little odd that some developers are decreasing file sizes whilst others are increasing them.

Have a read of this.

Would that mean it would be coming to all flavours of Linux?

I suppose it depends how they package it up. If they release source code (doubtful) you could probably compile it not only on any Linux distro but any other Unix such as Solaris or FreeBSD (as long as the other necessary packages are in place or can be installed at the same time).

Given that that's unlikely it could either be distributed as a .deb or .rpm package which would run on Debian/Ubuntu or RedHat/SuSE/Mandriva etc. respectively. In fact there are some installers which are independent from the distro's package manager and therefore installs under any flavour of Linux.

The bigger problem is going to be the lack of DirectX - it looks as though there's a working version of Left4Dead 2 so obviously the Source Engine has been ported to OpenGL. I expect they're going to be looking at games that have been converted to Mac because I think those may use OpenGL.

Hang around, I'll give you an explanation as to how to compile Gentoo Linux from source.

To try to claw back some kind of relevance: Linux + Open GL = potentially freedom from vendor lockdown and might therefore result in cheaper games on an OS that's free to install and can be changed by anyone with the relevant knowledge. Potentially a far cry from the kind of shit you get from Games on Demand.

Sauce? Now you're talking. I prefer red sauce to brown sauce.

EDIT: Sorry. Sorry. Relevance. I've always preferred Indian Relevance to African Relevance. Bigger tusks.
