PS4 OUT FIRST!

An eye-opening new report claims Sony wants to release PlayStation 4 before next Xbox - and is "confident" of doing so.

VG247 heard that PlayStation 4 specs were set two years ago, and that the machine will be out before the next Xbox, which is believed to be launching in Christmas 2013.

"Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time," one source told VG247.

Another source said "top-line" publishers already know about Sony's plans. "They're already working on [PS4]," the source said.

"Most" other teams will be briefed by the end of the year, and some will apparently be invited to special Sony events in the US in May and June.

VG247 was also told that Vita will work with PS4 like the Wii U tablet and hub console work together.

If it does come out before the nest Xbox, hopefully Sony will have learnt a thing or two from Microsoft's rush-job launch of the 360.

Better to make something that can already do everything than to make something for gaming and try to cram everything in later. Ala Xbox.

No I'll stick with the fact its a games console being priority thanks, if the other stuff comes later fine, but i dont buy a dishwasher to cook a potato in.

I'm not sure you'd know how to operate a dishwasher or cook a potato.

It's obviously better if they think about everything at the design stage. Perfectly possible to be a great games console and have the multimedia options built in at the design stage as PS3 has shown.

It clearly was the more forward thinking hardware. Live is superior service and PS3 isn't perfect but it is the better hardware.

No reason to think they can't pull something out of the bag for PS4.

Sony are an electronics company I'd expect the hardware to be better, I just think they had different priorities when creating the PS3 and it showed.
They had just as much interest in winning a format war & flogging you a media hub! as they did in making the best gaming console they could or focusing on the online side
of gaming. Hence why LIVE and the 360 is considered the more superior gaming platform now, which is something that if I'd said to you after the monster PS2,
you'd never would of believed it.

But how important is the online side to the majority of people?

It's a dull arguement really.. but the fact that M$ seem to be very keen to follow the Sony line and make their console a media hub too seems to indicate that Sony had the right idea.

Always best to design it in from the ground up.. otherwise it's a comprimise like add on HD-DVD players and such.

Ive been a Sony, a Ninty and Sega man in past, i have no real allegance (apart from the fact id like to keep my gamerscore) ill buy any console based on the hardware and the release games, ergo i have no time for tiresome fanboy politics.

Gears 3 just went up on Live for a mere 70 euro. Only 15 quid dearer than the RRP when it was released.

Online only xbox = me no play.
