The Thing (2011)
To some, including muggins here, John Carpenters remake of Thing From Another World is one of the classic sci-fi horrors of all time, and in many ways the equal to Alien.
So it's difficult to tell who this prequel (but basically remake of a remake) is aimed at. It sticks too cloesely to the Carpenter version to attract casual fans but is too poor to satisfy older fans.
Where Carpenter used cold war allegory, amazing outlandish practical effects only where neccesary, suspense and build up to great effect. This is a haze of by the numbers jump scares, 1 dimensional characters and poor CGI, which shows the monster almost straight away.
Not the worst film I've seen, but workmanlike to the point of insanity.
Buy the origional for £3 and watch that, plus you get the excellent 90 minute making of.
4/10
