I don't think it's biased against Prost. Obviously it's told from Senna's perspective.. the clue being in the title.

The Artist - *****

Actually amazing.

Close to the Edge - ****

Enjoyable. Maybe slightly more so cos I live here.. but very entertaining and informative.

For once im going with Bob on this one. I thought Prost came out like a super competetive and slightly complainy wretch (kida like a proto-Schumacher), but still OK come the end. The FIA president on the other hand.....

"complainy wretch" would suggest bias, no?

TBH the portayal of Senna as always looking out for driver safety was more annoying.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

I'm not sure where you getting this 'portrayal' thing.

It was all archive footage. I appreciate they've picked stuff that suits the narrative but it was all there..

Aye, editing. Great footage they have, skillfully edited.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark - top horror film. Genuinely scary. 8.5 out of 10
Woman in Black - ho hum - average all the way - 5 out of 10

The hunger games.

Very good, well acted and the premise for the story is an interesting one though it clearly has strong influences (read rip off) from Battle Royale.

The Thing (2011)

To some, including muggins here, John Carpenters remake of Thing From Another World is one of the classic sci-fi horrors of all time, and in many ways the equal to Alien.

So it's difficult to tell who this prequel (but basically remake of a remake) is aimed at. It sticks too cloesely to the Carpenter version to attract casual fans but is too poor to satisfy older fans.

Where Carpenter used cold war allegory, amazing outlandish practical effects only where neccesary, suspense and build up to great effect. This is a haze of by the numbers jump scares, 1 dimensional characters and poor CGI, which shows the monster almost straight away.

Not the worst film I've seen, but workmanlike to the point of insanity.

Buy the origional for £3 and watch that, plus you get the excellent 90 minute making of.

4/10

Think I'll be giving this a miss, I agree with the above. Defo in my top 10.

Yeh, the Thing is genuinly excellent and hasnt aged that badly. I wouldnt bother with the new one unless you were desparate.

It doesnt eve tie in that well with the 1982 one, (well, it does at start then forgets its a prequel and attempts to just remake the original).

Scream 4 - **

Genuinely dull. Time to put it to bed.

A few clever in jokes is no longer enough. There's no variety in the slayings or tension or anything really.

The Thing 82 is one of (if not THE) greatest horror films of all time. The 2011 prequel should have been so much better but the reliance on CGI spoiled it for me. I mean that if Rob Bottin was getting superb effects in 82 why would you want to change that. Surely it would have been cheaper to do than all that rendering and stuff on a computer. Plus Norris' head ripping itself free is one of the most shocking visceral scenes I have ever seen and it holds up even today.
Plus they screwed the saucer find up. The Norwegians used thermite.
The paranoia didn't come across as well as it did in Carpenters film.

All in all its a 6 /10 film for me cos I still found it hard to hate.

Huh, I really really really liked Scream 4. It is much more a comedy than the others though, but there were several genuine lols from me.
