Leon - directors cut

Luc Besson has and never will make a better film. It has a beautiful stillness to it that his trashy later work misses.

Gary Oldman has also very rarely been better, which is saying something.

The Woman in Black

I thought Radcliffe was properly good.. he may not be quite old enough to be a totally convincing alcoholic widower but that the reality of getting films made these days.. you often need a big name to guarantee a box office.. but he certainly does well with the role.

I really enjoyed the film. Thought the visuals where good and it was properly jumpy.

Cars 2

I'm an enormous fan of Pixar, but let's be clear this is by far the worst movie they have ever made.

Take away the stonkingly good visuals and all you are left with is a crushingly dull story, uninteresting characters ( aside from Mater, who is the most annoying character in any Pixar film) and a shit script.

Suffice to say the Toy Story short on the disc is a million times better but only 5 minutes long.

This Means War

A mildly distracting 100 minutes at the movies. Saved by Hardy's quiet charisma (he really is an excellent actor), Pines comic timing and Witherspoons perky turn. Maybe McGs best movie, which is a veiled compliment but true (like saying 'Ketterings best looking tramp').

Troll Hunter

Pretty much what the title suggest really. The way in which it was shot reminded me a bit of district 9 and the Blair Witch thingy (which is one of the worst things ever).

I think that this may have to go in my guilty pleasures pile.

Besides Cars (1), a film that sagged so heavily in the middle I thought I was watching Michelle McManus's Workout Video.

It's worse than the first, Mater is now the main character. Can't see anyone over 8 enjoying it.

Senna

Superb documentary with an interesting narrative structure that almost plays like a non-documentary style movie.

Best thing i can say is it makes Formula 1 look interesting (the behind the scenes stuff kinda is, but actual racing is like paint drying IMO), which is a tough job.

Made me hate the French though. Prost comes out of it ok but the former head of F1 guy looks like a complete douche.

John Carter

Pretty damned good sci-fi adventure fluff with a good heart and sense of fun and spectacle. Suffers from an uneven and confusing start but ends well. Nothing amazing but very enjoyable.

The Veteran

British council estate Taxi Driver thats faintly impressive until a leftfield turn into the completely bonkers. Toby Kebbell is impressive though and certainly one to watch.

**

The Last Three Days

For right or wrong im a fan of Russel Crowe. Hes a magnetic and engaging screen presence for the most part. This film, which is a remake of a French Thriller is a decent enough thriller, with a nicely opressive atmosphere.

***

Rise Of The Planet Of the Apes

I was genuinly impressed by this allegorical sci-fi movie, good intelligent movie making with a great performance from Andy Serkis as Caesar.

Agree. Didn't really fancy it tbh as I hated the Tim Burton film. Pleasantly surprised.

Watched Senna again. It is excellent, but the overwhelming bias against Prost is a little sour taste. And it does ignore that Senna very often drove dangerously, with little concern for the rest of them.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.
