Metacritic of 8.5 suggests I'm not entirely wrong though.

Fuck Metacritic, unless you're using it to dig out individual reviews and form your own judgement, which you're not. The best thing anyone can do with the Metacritic score is ignore it entirely and just READ SOME FUCKING WORDS.

Rant over.

It's relevant in this case because I scored it an 8. ;) Gug says I'm wrong. The average review score of the game is 8.5. Some people obviously agree with Gug.. possibly those, in no way biased OPM boys.

I have also written some words as to why I think it's average. Read those.

I actually can't think of another exclusive open world game on PS3 though so he's right about that.

I just think that Metacritic scores hold a lot more sway in this industry than they have any right to, and far too many people quote them like they're the be all and end all of everything and it winds me right up.

Lol. Ok Mr "I'm a journalist now" Albino.

Like I said I put words in there as well. So maybe ignore the bit where I disagree with Emo Boy, read the words I wrote.

Don't get me wrong inFamous is ok. It's not a great open world game but it's a cracking adventure.. it just wouldn't be first on my list of PS3 exclusives to play.

Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction is not only better looking, more fun to play and really shows what the PS3 is capable of and also has a higher Metacritic score although you didn't read that here...

Lol you may or may not recall that I've maintained my strong anti-Metacritic score views for many years. Being a "journalist" has nothing to do with it (in actuality, I consider myself nothing more than someone who likes writing about games despite doing it for a decade; I'm not getting paid and still feel I have a lot more evolving and improving to undergo); the fact that Metacritic scores are damaging to the industry and too often used as an argument for "I'm right, you're wrong" has everything to do with it.

I read your words, but not enough people read words in reviews, which is something I've been exposed to all too often since writing for Nintendo Life, where my work has an audience of thousands - if not millions - of people, all of whom focus solely on the score I awarded a game and getting ip in arms over it rather than actually taking into account what I wrote.

A recent example of what I'm talking about would be my review of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. I awarded it a 6/10, which translates to "not bad" as clearly stated on the site's scoring policy. Yet once again I had to deal with people calling my comments "violently untrue" because the were focusing on the low score rather than what I actually wrote.

If I had my way, reviews wound consist solely of words. A score is there merely to provide context, yet they're treated as gospel and hold far more power over people's decisions and reactions than intended, because they just scroll down to the bottom of the review, look at the score and immediately decide I'm being overly harsh when - if you take the scoring policy, the description and meaning behind 6/10 and what I actually wrote into account - I'm really not.

Oh and I shall indeed look into Ratchet & Clank. :)

Anyone buying a Vita?

I have considered it. Maybe I'll wait for some games, but I might just get one.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

I'd definitely like to get one eventually but I'll be waiting for a price drop first. Uncharted is the only game that interests me at the moment but I'm looking forward to Katamari as well. Hopefully, by the time I get one they'll be some other great games on it.

You know it's not made by Naughty Dog and as such will be a bit of a let down?

Yeah Clown I'm probably be in but I'm waiting for the inevitable price drop. Proprietery memory cards are a bit of a turn off too.. When I can get one with a memory card and a game for under £200 I'll be in. Until then I'm hanging on for the redesigned, 3DSlite with twin sticks.

Yes. I have the Internet. I've also read and watched enough on it to know I'll still enjoy it. I agree about waiting for a price drop and how the memory cards being a proprietory format is a bit shit. There's not enough, as with any console launch, on Vita to convince me I need one yet. But I will have one.
