Christmas boredom

Postby Biggs on Tue Dec 20, 2011 10:06 am

A teacher of mine used to say only boring people got bored, which I disagree with because he didn't get stuck in a house with his elderly parents and ancient gran in South Wales last Christmas as it pissed it down for four days, going out of his tiny mind because his siblings decided they weren't going to turn up at the last minute.

I'm sort of dreading the Christmas break, I feel like I'm going to reflect upon these potentially wasted days when I'm in my dotage and curse my apathy. I think I need to do something crazy... play Skyward Sword perhaps. Or stump up the $215 to play in the Pokerstars Sunday Million. Or this button-down, Oxford-cloth psycho might just snap, and then stalk from office to office with an Armalite AR-10 carbine gas-powered semi-automatic weapon, pumping round after round into colleagues and co-workers*

*Probably won't do this.

I have two weeks off over Christmas and I love slobbing out in front of the TV. Or with a book.

No sympathy here I'm afraid ;)

We need to learn when to say "enough", rather than gluttonously devouring more and more of the same thing through sheer force of habit.

One would think you would use that for a hilarity induced massacre!

I'm just imagining the headline now. "Games journalists clubbed to death with giant purple dildo. All games are inherently evil"

Dan took that home with him. Apparently he 'gave it to a friend'. I'm not joking about this by the way, PM him if you're at all concerned about possible self-abuse.

Is that the biggest tournament ever with 62,000 contestants? My mate came 71st on that.

[EDIT] just realised that you were talking about this Sunday coming.

I was, but I'll probably just jump on the poor man's equivalent ($200K Sunday Storm, $11 buy-in).

71st, good going. I'm guessing he was up until 4-5AM playing (15-minute blinds, gah) and scored $5K or thereabouts?

Yeah he was and got £10k actually IIRC. He is semi-pro though, winner of an EPT at 19 and other games. He's mates with Sam Trickett as well.

If you're ever in London playing a tourny, let us know!

Tried satelliting into that all last week, must have spent around $40 of my bankroll trying and came so close several times. I do alright out of online poker (won around the $1K mark several times), I rarely have to dip into my own money to fund it and the way I'm playing, I know a really nice payday is in the pipeline soon. But I'm not that good, I've just got a good idea of how, when and where I can get fat off the bottom-feeders on Pokerstars :)

Haha nit-fishing a lot then I see.

Satelliting into that must have been tough considering the sheer number of players. Yeah, I've just started and am making a profit on Pokerstars but still down on actual tournys. I don't play enough though. You can make a surprising amount of money if you play tight-aggressive on the lower stake games on PS.

I'm kinda curious whether I can take it to the next level, but Poker is still a fun hobby for me. I think if I started to incorporate pot odds and other mathematical concepts into my game it would suck the fun out quicker than I could take a dump in a vacuum.

I watched a game on PS ( or some other site ) a while ago where the guys were playing with thousands. This guy from the north east called "Geodie" something or other kept buying in at £1000 and going all in on his first hand. Lost first 3 hands then won 2 breaking about even then left. I vowed after a bit of wee came out watching the drama that I would never get involved in online poker.

That's gambling, not poker. You might as well play roulette if you're playing like that.
