I doubt he'll be that bothered now.

Don't be silly, this is Mr Kojima, he's a walking talking ocd!!...

I know a lot of metal gear fans are up in arms about this, but I honestly think as much as I love mgs games,
The entire series is in desperate need of a reboot.
Mgs4 was a love letter to the fans and a great way to wrap up an incredible gaming franchise, I just hope that he takes inspiration from Rising and moves forward.

You slander Uncharted for not being original and then praise a game resorting to typical hack and slash mechanics seen in a dozen games over it's stealthy root? You're strange one hollywooda.

He's a typical fanboy. If he likes something (like MGS or Batman) it's the best thing ever.. if he doesn't.. or it's a PS3 exclusive.. he wont see sense.

Yes but its a massive departure from the franchise, as far as a metal gear game goes this is as original as it gets!! Hence my praise.

Departing from a formula to copy something derivative is hardly original by default...

I never said it was original, I said they are trying something new (within the context of mgs), the original argument is going on in the VGA thread about uncharted, keep up bob!.... Haha.

I think he's made a wise decision. Yeah, hack and slash has been done before but Platinum (with both Bayonetta and Vanquish) have shown that they can take an established genre and innovate inside of its tried and tested conventions. Neither of the games mentioned re-invented the wheel but they certainly pushed the limits of/played around with what could be done with hack and slashers/TPS respectively.

As someone mentioned above Kojima is known for quality and perfection on an obsessive scale. He needed a Japanese dev team (I presume) who he could have faith in to deliver that and come up with something which pushes at boundaries. Imo Platinum are an obvious choice, certainly considering that Japans output of late has been pretty weak elsewhere.

EDIT: As holly says, it is something new when it comes to the Metal Gear franchise and I'm sure there will be game mechanics and nods which stay true to that throughout whilst being something different.

Still said original. Just saying.

And it's new to the MGS series sure, but then so would a racing game within the Halo series. Doesn't make it any less shit.

What the hell are you talking about, talk about taking something out of context to avoid conceding your wrong.

I'll give it a go, well errm, well bananas are yellow imagine if apples tasted like custard, what then?... See.

I'm not sure how I've taken anything out of context? Just merely stating that just because it's unlike anything previously in the series, does not make it original nor fitting nor necessary. My feeling with MGS Rising as it is now is that it's no longer a Metal Gear game but Bayonetta with Metal Gear skins. Originality (relative or not) does not make a good game. As ever, it's about the execution.
