For the mag: Would you buy a next-gen Xbox next Christmas?

Postby 360_Mag_Dave on Tue Dec 06, 2011 3:02 pm

Well, would you!? Considering how much it might cost; lets assume it's amazing, technically incredible and something that's a great leap forward for gaming. would you want to fork out for it? Also, what would make it must buy purchase for you?

There are a lot of rumours knocking round and the chances of a next-gen announcement soon is becoming increasingly likely, the question is, are you prepared to buy a new machine?

I'd buy one right now!

And when I say buy RIGHT NOW, I jolly well mean phone Microsoft and ask them to send me one for free post-haste!

I love buying hardware. Love it. Love un-boxing it. Love putting all the little pvc bags and cable twists back in the empty box (yes I have mild OCD) and I love setting it up and plugging everything in...

BUT.. and it's a big but, launch titles are nearly always rubbish.

Having said that I'd put it on my christmas list. I wouldn't be too bothered if there was stock shortages though.

I'd buy PS4 in a flash though.

No.

Because of what Bob said. Launch titles are always the previous gen's forgotten shite with a tiny bit of polish.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Unlikely. I fancy saving up for a super-duper PC at the moment. It'll probably take me till next Christmas to do so.

Bizarrely enough I'm more interested in the Wii U at the moment, mainly because I'd really like to see an HD Metroid game (whether it be Prime, or a new "Other M"-style game). Of course, there's much less overlap for a PC owner with the Wii/Wii U than with the 360. Gears of War 3 is about the only really big name game that's been released on the 360 and not the PC this year.

Without even thinking about it. Whether or not the missus would let be splash the cash though is another matter!

Despite having waited a year before buying a 360 I'd definitely be up for a new console at launch...

I used to be a deffo buy a new console when its launched. But now, money is tight. Job market is tough, i dont wanna be spending all my pennies on a new console when i dont know if i'll be employed indefinitely.

@dan surely u want the 360 to go on forever - its greater job security than a new machine? :D

Presumably they'll either re-brand or start a new magazine with the same team?

I'd hate to think the forum, community or magazine wouldn't be about in some form.

Really? Hmmm:

Goldeneye 007 Reloaded
Halo HD
Metal Gear Solid HD
Resident Evil 4 HD
Some other classics recently launched in barely-passable HD that I can't be bothered to Google.

Yes, I love new tech & the old girl has been around for awhile now, i think one more year should be the max before we see something new, saying that i'd buy it today!,
i just love getting a new console.

Next gen I've made the decision i'm only going with one console, the PS3 for me besides its 3D/bluray player has been a massive disappointment, So i'm putting all
my chips on MS & after the incredible success that is the 360, i know i wont be let down.

(yer like thats never happened!...thinks back to the PS2).

Halo may have been a launch title but the others certainly weren't.

HD remakes are a different thing.

The 360 launch titles are as follows

Amped 3 (2K Sports)
Call of Duty 2 (Activision)
Condemned: Criminal Origins (SEGA)
FIFA Soccer 06 Road to 2006 FIFA World Cup (Electronic Arts)
GUN (Activision)
Kameo: Elements of Power (Microsoft)
Madden NFL 06 (Electronic Arts)
NBA 2K6 (2K Sports)
NBA LIVE 06 (Electronic Arts)
Need for Speed Most Wanted (Electronic Arts)
NHL 2K6 (2K Sports)
Perfect Dark Zero (Microsoft)
Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie (Ubisoft)
Project Gotham Racing 3 (Microsoft)
Quake 4 (id Software and Activision)
Ridge Racer 6 (Namco)
Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06 (Electronic Arts)
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (Activision)

Not many gems there.. In fact apart from CoD which went on to spawn MW I don't think any of those franchises have been missed or in fact that any of those games would feature in anyones top ten 360 games.

Case closed.
