For the mag: Call Of Duty: Elite

Postby Dave Shaw on Wed Oct 26, 2011 8:48 am

Hi there, all! Hope all's well with you this fine morning.

Small talk out of the way, I wanted to ask y'all for your thoughts on Call Of Duty: Elite, Activision's stat/entertainment/DLC service.

Do you think it's good value? Will you buy it? Do you think Activision has done a good job getting across what it'll actually do?

Any thoughts, as always, are welcome.

Printable ones, anyway… :)

Full details here, if you're interested: http://www.callofduty.com/elite/whats-included.html

Haven't we already done this? Is CoD Elite gonna be the new Kinect for 'For the mag' threads?

I can see that it might be fun if you only buy one game a year but I'd rather spend the cash on like.. different games?

Of no interest to me but if it gets some more cash out of Johnny 2-games-a-year I suppose it might be a good idea.

Heres where Bob will laugh at me.

Ive used Elite and its a fun little tool, especially if like me you have 4/5 friend who all CoD regulally and you can keep up a competion/league between you. Plus i actually thanks to the stats page, increased my KDR on the game the other week.

Although, i hadnt originally intended to join the paid Elite service, I bought the hardened edition of MW3 as it entitles you to a year of Elite membership. This is mostly due to the good deal i got (£69.99) for the £40 quid game and extras, which after you factor in the DLC you get bundles, ill hopefully save £10 or so.

So a financial decison, rather than anything else, but still, guess that makes me a CoD saddo.

For the first time in years I'll not be getting CoD on release day, And probably not until the new year, Elite does not interest me. I suppose for the 'Hardcore' CoD fan it could be a good service, Online CoD just does not interest me anymore. Shame really.

It sounds like a good idea for those who play Call of Duty enough to warrant the price (i.e. twice as much as any other game), but it's not for me. There's enough people like that out there though, so I can understand why Activision are giving it a price tag (unlike Waypoint and Battlelog). The free DLC did tempt me, but I've never bought DLC before and I'm not paying for Elite on the sole basis of recieving free DLC I might not even want.

The DLC is the interesting point with the Hardened edition and does seem to make the charging for Elite rather pointless.
Why give DLC away for free and then charge for Elite separately to others?
Anyway i will not be getting Elite as all my real life friends are useless and either don't play FPS or only do on the PS3. Slackers the lot of em i know.

You'd need to play a hell of a lot of Cod to make elite worth while and for me there are too many other triple Aer's I want before Cod, so Elite no thanks I'm out.

Buff, im guessing, to get money in the bank early on and create a buzz.

Remeber Elite is free, but its the upgarded one with extra services that costs.

You may be best just trying the free version then buying the map packs separtae. Its just that the hardened edition represents a saving overall. I cant imagine the maps will be pants seeing as the Blops one were uniformly good. Even if they are id have to buy them to know they were pants.
