What did you all think about Risen? Feel free to let loose. While you at it, what do you make of Risen 2: Dark Waters?

Cheers :)

Risen is currently top of my list of Worst Game Ever. It was a shambolic excuse for a game with ropey graphics, poor collision detection and a story that didn't make much sense at all. This is a real pity as there was a good game underneath but it was so mired in having the player wander into areas that they would be instantly killed that it took the fun out of it, at least with a game like Dark Souls, you do get a mini bit of a hint that you are going to die before it happened. Also most of the NPC's were broken, to the extent that they had game breaking issues, for instance, I needed to talk to a recruit in order to advance the mission, he had no idea what I wanted and only spoke one word, that being 'what?'. I have only played one game that was more broken than this and that was Venetica.

As for Risen 2: Dark Waters? I'm not willing to purchase it until it goes sub £10 and even then I'd have to have a think about it.

Ok, rant over.

I think Jnr is the only one who bought it.

Risen. 77% on Metacritic. 8.2 User Score, from 269 ratings. Apparently, a critically well-received and popular game.

That's the PC version though. I've played it a bit but it looks as though it'll take time to get into. It looks to me as though the mechanics of the game are quite interesting. You have to do the basics, right down to finding a frying pan so you can cook any raw ingredients you loot from animal corpses or fish you find washed up on the beach. It is basically Gothic on a desert island, without as many bugs (it's hard to get Gothic 3 to run at all, and it won't run well on even on the recommended spec - you have to go well beyond that). I like the theory of it all but as yet I haven't put the time in. It doesn't make many concessions to anyone making a half-hearted attempt to play it (i.e. me, so far). But I suppose it was quite a brave attempt to bring a game of the complexity and difficulty of Gothic to the consoles, even though the conversion was, by all accounts, botched.

I'm quite interested in a sequel, though really I should find the time to get into the first game before getting interested in a new one. It now of course has competition in the shape of Dead Island.

Utter bollocks. Horrible, broken excuse for a game. Makes Two Worlds look like a Golden Joystick winner.

Completely disagree - having played both Two Worlds made me question the universe as a whole.

And whoever slagged Venetica off needs a rethink or they haven't played it properly. That actually was a great game and should never be dragged into a discussion about Risen and Two Worlds

Venetica was good for what I played of it, but when the game glitched so that the quest character just disappeared, it immediately turned it into utter tosh. I did play it properly, it's not my fault that the bloody thing was glitched and not patched.

I like the look of Risen 2. There's always a chance it'll be good? No?
If in doubt, put the kettle on.
