First mission down. All good so far but its early days

The high framerate is immediately apparent; environments look really crisp with crosshair movement being highly responsive and smoother than a Cadbury's Galaxy. I have noticed the odd blurry texture but in the grand scheme of things I think people are just nit picking. After all its the first time this technique has been used.

The PC is said to have its own specific problem as far as textures are concerned though - apparently the program tries to autodetect the right settings and in most cases it's choosing low settings. This has the PC gamer community gnashing its collective teeth as they want options to control the level of detail themselves. Not only is there a lack of options in-game, it's not entirely clear how to tweak the configuration files either.

Still, it's certainly smooth and graphically it looks pretty decent as long as you're not right up close to something. Hopefully there will be fixes for all of this soon, as playability-wise I've no complaints so far.

Heh ... probably not, but then again I don't go to PC gaming forums so I don't know. Despite playing most games on PC nowadays I don't really venture into that community much ... probably because I do my gaming on pretty basic PC hardware, and often with a joypad too (shock, horror). I wouldn't fit in at all, I'd be considered a consolified lightweight at best.

Still, I wouldn't mind an option on the menu to choose texture detail level at least ... patch, pretty please, id?

Or you could just go here and read it on Nowgamer.

A few more missions in and the game is starting to hits its stride.

The a.i is snappy and I really like how the enemies react to bullet impacts. I got spotted lining up a headshot and copped the guy in his right shoulder. The force spun him to the left and backwards putting him straight on his ass. He then proceeds to sit up shake his head and spout out a half dazed 'fack me'. Still on his ass he takes a quick look round grabs his pistol and starts shooting wildly whilst yelling I'll get you, you wanker.

The bullet impact isn't a massive jump from some other games but it gives the enemies a feel of physicality and really helps when your outnumbered.

From what I have read, the way the enemies reacts really keeps you on your toes and you have to use your whole arsenal to deal with em.

I'm still in the early stages but it definitely looks that way.

I've found myself back peddling on quite a few occasions due to an enemy rolling, side stepping or dodging behind something so my shots have missed. Nipping back behind cover to let my health recharge with the intention of popping straight out for a quick headshot and the enemy has moved from where he was. Two guys in cover and as one drops down to reload the other one (placed at just enough distance away) pops up and starts to unload.

The enemy banter throws you off balance a bit as well. There's been quite a few times I've not quite been paying attention due to laughing and they all decide to open fire. After nailing two of three enemies the one still standing screams 'fuck a duck!!!! I'm out of here. Oi tosser! You can't catch me' he then puts his head down and charges off through a door. Chuckling to myself I sprinted through the doorway after him only to find I'd walked straight into an ambush; one enemy laughing at me as the grenade indicator starts flashing.

The game has a real knack of catching you off guard so the shooting becomes a mixture of reflexes, on and off the fly strategies. I think anyone expecting mindless blasting is going to be very surprised by this.

Just installed the first disc. The Mrs is off down to Brixham, overnight, with her friend and is taking the youngest daughter with her. The eldest is going out to a sleepover.

I'm gonna give this a good bashing 'til about 8:00 then I'm off out on the piss with my mate. All in all, a pretty good day.

Good News: The boat has sailed and I now have a spanking sealed copy of Rage in my hands

Bad News: I'm going out from 6pm today until late..
