Erm.. no it doesn't. Not the way we call them the 80's 80-89, The 90's 90-99, The 00's therefore are 2000 to 2009.

No - he's pedantically right. You are aesthetically correct however.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Because there is no year 0 the first decade (as the current calender counts it) was 1-10. The next 11-20, and so on and so forth...

I know it's a bit pedantic and I got sick of telling everyone they were celebrating the new millennium a year early ("It's not 2000, it's 2001 morons!") but nobody listened to me then so please feel free to not listen to me now.

Right.. so you're favourite album of the 80's could've been released in 1990? Doh!

While there was no year 0 a year will have passed by the time they count 1. Thus anything released in up until the end of 9 is the decade.

No, No it wasn't. Or at least it shouldn't of been.

How old are you when you born? Did you come out of the womb one?

You can't have year one until a year has been gone. Surely?

No, because the end of the first year was when I'd been alive for 1 year... My first year of life, not the zero year.

Well it was the zero year because it wasn't a year until it was finished.

Still. Like I said.. Good luck voting for the best album/game or anything else of decade from the year after..

What's you're favourite album of the 80 Bob?

easy! Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence

wasn't that released in 1990 Bob?

Yes! That well known last year of the 80s. Unlike say.. 1980. The last year of the 70s.

wikipedia wrote:Although any period of 10 years is a decade, a convenient and frequently referenced interval is based on the tens digit of the calendar year, as in using "1960s" to represent the decade from 1960 to 1969. Often, for brevity, only the tens part is mentioned (60s or sixties), although this may leave it uncertain which century is meant. These references are frequently used to encapsulate popular culture or other widespread phenomena that dominated such a decade, as in The Great Depression of the 1930s.
Since the common calendar starts from the year 1, its first full decade contained the years from 1 to 10, the second decade from 11 to 20, and so on. So while the "1960s" comprises the years 1960 to 1969, the "197th decade" spans 1961 to 1970.
A decade may also refer to an arbitrary span of 10 years. For example, the statement "during his last decade, Mozart explored chromatic harmony to a degree rare at the time," merely refers to the last 10 years of Mozart's life without regard to which calendar years are encompassed.
Thus, an unqualified reference to, for example, "the decade" or "this decade" may have multiple interpretations depending on the context.

We're both right! (except I'm technically more right than you of course.)
