Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

Postby Venomous Albino on Thu Jul 22, 2010 9:08 pm

The more I see on Marvel vs Capcom 3, the more I start to get wet; that special kind of wet that only comic book geeks have ever experienced. It's out on February 15th 2011 in the US, with a UK release date of February 18th 2011.

Marvel characters confirmed so far are:
- Captain America
- Deadpool
- Doctor Doom
- Dormammu
- Hulk
- Iron Man
- Magneto
- M.O.D.O.K.
- Phoenix
- Sentinel
- She-Hulk
- Shuma-Gorath *
- Spider-Man
- Storm
- Super-Skrull
- Taskmaster
- Thor
- Wolverine
- X-23

Capcom characters confirmed so far are:
- Akuma
- Albert Wesker
- Amaterasu
- Arthur
- Chris Redfield
- Chun-Li
- Crimson Viper
- Dante
- Felicia
- Hsien-Ko
- Jill Valentine *
- Mike Haggar
- Morrigan
- Nathan "Radd" Spencer
- Ryu
- Trish
- Tron Bonne
- Viewtiful Joe
- Zero

* - characters available as DLC

Now, I'm not usually someone to get excited about fighting games - I tried Street Fighter IV and was rubbish at it - but Marvel vs Capcom 2 was one of my favourite games on the Dreamcast, and the first Xbox game I ever bought/owned. It had the usual ludicrous amount of depth that fighting game enthusiasts get stuck into, yet had a more simplistic button set-up - which MvC3 has tweaked slightly but mostly kept to - that meant that even ham-fisted types like me could knock out some awesome combos. I just need to find someone who'll play local multiplayer with me now; me and my mate used to spend hours at a time on MvC2 but sadly that's not an option anymore, and the missus won't go near it. Still, it's down for a Spring 2011 release, so there's plenty of time to work on my other friends. :D

Anyone else getting geared up for this? Who else would you like to see? On the Marvel side, I could list the characters I'd like to see playable in MvC3 for hours, but on the Capcom side, I'd like to see Arthur, Mega Man (X) and Nathan Spencer.

(edit: 9/10/10)

So, much to my delight, it's been confirmed that both Nathan Spencer and Arthur will be playable. However, MvC3's producer/director Ryota Niitsuma has confirmed that Mega Man X will not be playable, along with a long list of other characters: Tyrant, Nemesis, Gene, Demitri Maximoff and all the characters from Rival Schools and Power Stone on the Capcom side; with Daredevil, Emma Frost, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Blade, Mojo, Man-Thing and Doctor Strange being confirmed as non-playable on the Marvel side. He also implied that Cyclops wouldn't be playable either.

(edit: 10/11/10)

On the Capcom side, also confirmed as non-playable are any characters from Monster Hunter, Breath of Fire, Three Wonders and Sengoku Basara. Capcom have stated that the final game will have around 40 characters and that the roster has been finalised, although fan demand might result in extra characters being added as DLC.

(edit: 23/11/10)

Turns out there's already DLC planned, possibly (see: extremely bloody likely) on day of release, in the form of 2 characters: Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine.

(edit: 9/12/10)

Silver Surfer, Amingo and Ruby Heart won't be playable.

(edit: 22/12/10)

Achievements list revalled

(edit: 18/01/11)

A code will be included in the limited edition of MvC3, containing free downloads for Shuma Gorath and Jill Valentine.

This will suck serious balls.

Sorry VA, I know you're excited but best to throw those hopes aside and accept the inevitable.

I've updated the playable character roster and also added info on characters confirmed as being non-playable. I'll continue to do so because a) some people might possibly care; and b) it kinda makes me a little bit like the guy I can't remember the name of who was like this forum's news robot.

This looks awesome! If I've got a fight stick by then, I'll be getting this.

When I get MvC3 - although Duke Nukem Forever is apparently out in February, so god knows when that'll bee - I'll definitely be investing in a fight stick.

I've got a fight stick now, but I have doubts about this now. It looks far too manic for me ol brain to handle. I'll still be giving t a go thou.
