Same here...I want all three consoles but ones that work. My 360 is screwed up so I don't want to spend a billion squidgets on a PS3 that doesn't work. I'll wait a while.

Nah, they're cut the price, they're gonna have to. The first few will batches will sell out fast, mainly people thinking they're gonna sell them for 2k on eBay, but demand is gonna trail off fast.

Also, them stepdowns are expensive, heavy and damn ugly.

I'm taking an empty one, anyway. Gonna stock up on HD-DVDs. As for the step down, I've already got one, although, I agree, it is heavy and ugly.

Current HD-DVDs do not have region lock-out, as far as I am aware. This is likely to change in the future, mind.

all HD-DVD players are region free and will remain like that till at least 2009, but even if its put in place in a couple of years it dousnt stop all players sold up until then being region free.
