All you had to do was type it into the search bar.

I'll leave now, I have no idea what Nier is.

The game certainly falls into the acquired taste bracket, but if you enjoyed Team Ico's game's this is probably the closest thing you'll get to one on the 360. If it remains consistently good as it has so far.. then I would say Nier is definately underrated.

Sorry Apollo.. I've made amends now.

It's on my hit list of stuff that I'm interested in that I'm waiting to pick up whilst cheap..

Does it really have a Team Ico feel?

I bought this for £12 from Zavvi a couple of weeks ago. Only played it for an hour before going onto something with a bit more instant gratification. But it did look quite promising actually. One to sink a day into in the near future, I expect.

I'm 5 hours into this. So far I am pleasantly surprised by it. Visually I think it is quite attractive in its own way, and I agree with Apollo that there's a distinct similarity to Shadow of the Colossus, with pastel shades being preferred over bright colours. The Shade creatures look a bit messy and malformed, but the bosses are impressive. And after not too long, instead of mucking around hacking away at sheep, goats and smaller shade beasts, after picking up Grimoire Weiss you can just blast them all in almost alarmingly shoot-'em-up-esque fashion. It's brilliant fun, and almost completely the opposite of the more restrictive, strategic gameplay you'd expect from a JRPG. They seem to delight changes of camera angle in combat areas, with one section in a village in a cave resembling a 2D platform game. Despite what reviews have said, I think these disparate elements are held together pretty well by the solid, standard hack 'n' slash and fetch quest fare offered by the main game.

It has not been entirely plain sailing however. I was extremely irritated at first by the fishing subgame. Some old codger by the shore gives you a fishing rod and some bait and tells you to fish down by the beach. Cue about quarter of an hour of swearing from me as seemingly uncatchable fish proved too powerful for my rod and kept getting away, amidst accusations from me regarding the old man's parentage. What he didn't say was go to the beach *the other side of the cave* where I caught the little tiddler I needed for that particular quest, which would've saved some considerable anguish on my part.

Talking about the music, I've just done the text adventure bit in the Forest of Myth (had to have a few, ahem, extra guesses to get through it!). With that haunting song playing in the background it brought back strong reminiscences of playing Lost Odyssey, with its loooong stories accompanied by that achingly beautiful piano music.

I never got round to completing Lost Odyssey actually, I didn't get past the damned Arthrosaurs attacking Numara. I really should finish it off, although I have a feeling that by now I've completely lost touch with how to play it. Besides, I'm having fun with Nier at the moment.

The girl with the umbrella made me want to punch my telly in.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

With the umbrella? It's been a while since I played it, so I can't really remember, but is that Cooke, the little girl, the one that's good at healing? Or is it not one of the party members?

But what are you like, Clown Trousers! I've only been here for a short while and even I can tell you're a very cynical individual! I expect you like to burn JRPGs for fun, as they're usually a bit sentimental and cloying.

Still enjoying Nier, had a big ol' battle this morning and, without giving too much away, it's the bit just before the story shifts forward 5 years.

Eternal Sonata looks really good, almost the opposite of Nier graphically with all its intricate detail and vibrant colour. I got up to the bit on the pirate ship before deciding I'd had enough of the long-winded landscape puzzles. That one in the fortress, where you move the rings around, tried my patience quite a lot, though it was very pretty. Pity really, because I really liked the way you could move around the arena, and the different areas of dark and light. And I'm a pianist too so the subject matter appeals ...
