Bionic Commando

Postby Valleyman on Mon May 18, 2009 9:19 am

The best bit I enjoyed on the demo was jumping off the buildings when being shot at, though I found trying to kill someone quite difficult.

It brought back a feel of shadowrun in my opinion but couldn't help but think this is how one of the spiderman games should of been made for live.

Anybody else gave this a whirl?

Not yet. Although I would have preferred a single player demo to be honest, as that's what I buy a game for. If the multiplayer is good, then that's great, but I'd rather know what the campaign is like.

It's gotten distinctly average reviews (apart from Tims Capcom effect) so it should be right up your street VA.

I've gone right off downloading demos these days but that's probably a discussion for a different thread.

You can start one. I'd do it, but I'd never hear the end of it.

Acually it's one of the worst demo out there. The graphics, the gameplay, the whole thing itself. It's pointless. Pink, blue, green lilttle people running around shooting at each other. I would have preffered a single player demo too...

Sounds a lot like Halo 3 multiplayer.

This game's good but annoying, I wanna swing around and have fun endlessley but all it wants me to do is stay in the boundaries and play by the rules. Stupid radiation all over the place. :x

Went online with this and it's so pissing stressful.
Majority of people just use their modded controllers, like they do on CoD4 for their pistols. Only thing is on CoD4 the pistols still not great, on this the pistol + a modded controller (it has a little button that you hold and it rapid fires your gun faster than humanly possible) means you own. Everyone's default weapon is the pistol, it's not very strong, but it never runs out of ammo and it never has to reload, which means these modders can hold their rapid fire button and shoot like a machine gun with it dominating everyone. It's not fair at all.

Got this today and it's pretty good. I'm not bothered about the lack of freedom to be honest. After so many sandbox games it's nice to have a bit of linearity and focus to a game. I'm also liking the challenges that keep popping up, which push you to experiment and actually make the most of Spencer's moveset.

I'm still rubbish at swinging though. I've got a little bit better since I started playing but the amount of times I've given a swing too much oomph and ended up either sailing miles past a target or cocked it up and just plummeted to the ground... it's not even funny. Also, the game loves loading screens. Loves them!!

Haven't played multiplayer yet, but I did have a go at the demo and thought it was alright. I like how you can hold your own even with a pistol (even without a modded controller; I don't agree with them at all) and if someone's hammering the sh*t out of you, you can just swing away and regroup.

Yeah I'be been playing this today too and have to say I feel Tim was pretty much spot on with his review, its hard to get the hang of swinging but when you get it right its feels so good, the way it is used in combat is simply sublime. Also quite like the story, even if it doesn't develop as fast I'd like but Spencer is a very likable character and the interactions with the other npc's is great. Plus lush graphics and animations alongside the equally colourful soundtrack.

Weird - I also started this again last night, though I'm breezing though it after previewing and reviewing it but I noticed a couple of differences - like I don't remember the robots being able to shoot before, and a section had snipers in it that weren't there in the review code.

I don't find Spencer that likeable to be honest. Every time Joe says something, he's like "SO WHAT?!". He comes across overly arrogant. I know he was fcuked over and he's basically just being used, but compared to the Spencer portrayed in BC: Rearmed, he's a bit of a nob.

He did get put in jail because of them, I wouldn't be particularly happy either.

This game bored me though, I think I'm about half way through and I just can't force myself to continue.

It's definitely not perfect. I'd have given it 3 stars rather than 4, personally. And it'll definitely be put aside today for Point Lookout.
