Decisions in the main missions like freeing the Rachnai Queen opened up 5 or so hours worth of side quests alone.

I clocked in at about 60 hours in ME1 with new game+ and that was per character. I put more time into ME1 and Dragon Age Origins than any of the successors of either series, Bioware got EA'd look at Command & Conquer.

The internet's assumption that Bioware are lost, angelic chldren and EA are demonic childcatchers is very strange.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

It's something of a gamer convention to assume some companies are evil money grabbing corporate whores and some are run as almost benevolent charities dedicated to giving gamers what they want.

Oh yeah.. they can do nothing wrong.. despite selling you the same game for every console you've ever owned and then milking poor old mario's nipples.

I heard he gets off on that Bob...."oooooh thatsa REAL good (lip smacks)"

You can only go on the track record with this one. Undoubtedly, the series has gradually had its edges rounded off in search of a larger market share. Putting fewer missions in but then giving you the ability to put scopes on your guns and different lapels on your armour does not constitute depth IMO.

Thankfully the end product is still good enough to cut it.

Doenst always work though...ahem Ninja Gaiden 3.

Frankly I'm baffled. There's buckets of content and context in ME3. I think it's fantastic.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Got that bookmarked and ready to quote in a years time when there's a ME3 'For The Mag' thread and you've just bitched about it for 1000 words

I agree with CT...I think the difference is that all the content is largely put into the main missions, rather than spread out over several side quests like in previous games. Given the game is speeding up towards an epic confrontation with the Repaers, it wouldn't really make sense to have it any other way.

I am aware the ending, shall we say, divides opinion, so i may change my mind.

Right...done!

The endings(s) - replayed my last save to get all 3 endings - left me a bit underwhelmed tbh. All that build up for nowt!

Still a great fucking great game though!! Right I'm of to play ME1 and save the Rachni Queen!

I said a few pages back that I hoped the game implied consequences on the player for exploration. Say you have 5 places to explore with a side quest for each. But with the reapers invading you can only do three and the two planets you chose not to visit get blasted to pieces. Apart from the impact of losing entire planets storywise those planets may have had valuable resources, tech or troops to help with the war effort. The player naturally forfeiting these by their own choice and not the developer dictating which planets are doomed and nowt the player can do about it.

Why wouldn't doing it that way make any sense?

Mass Effect was a balanced action/rpg. Where as now its an Action/rpg.
