I did everything in the game.

Decisions in the main missions like freeing the Rachnai Queen opened up 5 or so hours worth of side quests alone.

Yeah, it took me 60 hours to do most stuff and then absolutely everything with the same character on a hardcore afterwards. Would happily do it again as well haha.

Has it been shrunk even further than Me2's?

I was hoping the universe would be opened out by the player as it is in Me1. I mean, side missions and decisions in main missions opening up new planetary systems and places to explore.

:( :(

I clocked in at just over 50 hours with the first game and I'd have happily gone on exploring.

This made me laugh

There is no exploring in this one - side quests are mostly automatic. I reckon the Universe has more systems (I think it has all the ME1 and 2 systems, but there's not a whole lot in them bar scanning. There is no random landing on planets, which is disappointing.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

35 hours and you are only just doing the Quarians CT? Jeez, are you redaing every Codex entry twice. I have now done almost every scan and serach mission (only 2 remain) and im only up to late twentys still. Ive not been rushing either.

In ME1 you obviously had tiresome Mako action to pad it out and ME2 had extended scanning, plus they had more side missions. This is much more sparse IMO.

I loved the Mako. Not as slow as getting around on foot and beats the scanning hands down, imo.

Aye, I did enjoy the Mako. Part of me is in the mood to run through the three back to back. Combat in 3 is a huge improvement on 1 and 2. Enemies come at you rather than just pop in and out of cover, for one.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

The mako wasnt too bad to control but the whole affair was just padding. 3 hours of driving to chip away at rock formations....jeez.

Agreed on the AI though, much better. The actual combat controls are almost the same to 2 though.

But you're so much mobile in 3 and as a result the combat has so much more of a flow.

Compared with 2, I mean. Against most other shooters...well, yeah.

You not group your side quests together?

The minerals quest was ongoing throughout so you could go at that at your leisure. I think there were only about 3 or 4 planets which had nothing else on them but mineral desposits. Besides, landing on random planets just to see what was down there and coming up trumps was great fun, imo.

Personally, I prefer open world games to linear ones. The 'you must go this way and do level 2 after 1' purely because of the story is getting way too old now. All games should actively allow a player to effect its story, imo. If Mass Effect got to the point where it didn't do that then I simply wouldn't bother.

I like the system exploring in this one, the constant mineral hunt was a bit much, but it does seem a bit of a wasted opportunity not being able to have a little walk around on planets.

Also, I would have loved the chance to have actually piloted a ship in space combat. Something like Fleet Command, or even a cockpit based one like Freelancer.
