Aye, Skyrim's clearly the better game and it's not just the technological gap between it and it's predecessor that makes it so. The world of Skyrim is just much more diverse and engaging to travel and explore. Cyrodiil was awfully flat and samey by comparison. Skyrim's combat is much improved (though obviously hardly flawless), shouts give much more interesting options than most spells in previous games and dragons, in conjunction with other random encounters, just liven the world up a hell of a lot more, making it far more dynamic.
Which isn't to say Oblivion is rubbish but it did hit some bum notes when it made alterations from Morrowind. Skyrim's everything that made Oblivion good, with none of the stuff that spoiled it.

Had to read that about four times before I realised what you'd done. Then I got confused thinking I'd made a typo, oh you tinker you.

And ner Conker, ner it's not. Oblivion was just better, Skyrim is technically better sure but it lacks heart.

Umm Morrowind has both of them beat. Technical achievements aside, the whole world of Morrowind was gigantic compared to Oblivion and Skyrim and they're big as it is.

Plus I still haven't been everywhere on it cos its frigging hard and not dumbed down to appeal to more people. I wish they'd release it again as a HD on Live.

EDIT Oh and the story was extremely engaging

Morrowind's good and is probably the most interesting Elder Scrolls game but its a lot messier in terms of design and was way too stats driven for me even back then. Oblivion and Skyrim weren't dumbed down, they were just better and easier to get along with. Also, you do realize Morrowind's map is considerably smaller than both Skyrim and Oblivion?

@Gug, well I respectfully disagree sir. I found a lot more of a soul in Skyrim, especially when it harks back to that mystical, ancient atmosphere that Morrowind has, which was something Oblivion completely lacked.

Up the difficulty mate.

For me, these 100 hour games are long enough without playing the same boss battle 40 times. Thats fine if its a 8 hour campaign but when its Skyrim sized, youd be playing it till 2 gens from now if it wasnt accesible.

Yeah the map may have been smaller but there was a real challenge of getting across it. Yes it was driven more by stats but it never detracted from the game.

In Skyrim the only time I had a real problem was when I left Whiterun at the very beginning and foolishly attacked a giant. Still an excellent game but there was no massive challenge. I guess I've played too many games to be objective anymore. Who knows?

Its only my opinion :D

You can always turn the difficulty up with Skyrim but yeah, Morrowind was harder but I think to a detrimental degree. You explored less, took fewer risks and ultimately the game ended up a bit stale. Also, the heavy stats driven gameplay really detracted from the game, like when you went to swing a sword at them and despite literally, on your screen, seeing that sword cut through them, because of your stats you do not hit them or do any damage. Utter pants that was.

But if you prefer Morrowind, at least you can always go back to it since any PC under the sun can run it nowadays.

MASSIVE AGREE Morrowind for the MFW

I ad it on the original Xbox after watching friends playing it on pc, its amazing. I loved the stats, i spent 8 real time hours putting myself in Jail to lose skill points knowing full well i could make them p again and level up higher, thats the kind of funny game tech i love.

Oblivion was cool
Skyrim is amazing, but i spend years looking at load screens and it annoys the crap out of me.

The amount of loading is jokes.. especially when you fast travel.
