You're probably right there. I can hope though.

Visually, RDR has impressed me the most outta all the games I have seen recently. It be interesting to see how the game mechanic plays. Very doubtful that I'll get this at launch tho. :(

It never ceases to amaze me how many people are crap at GTA and blame the game.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Erm.. I finished GTA IV. I still blame the game.

Ah, it's great, yer all just mental.

Like last week I was in Boston (dunno if I mentioned it) and wandering around I noticed that the streets were exactly the same as the one Packie lived on, right down to the types of alleyways they have. It's a fantasticly detailed achievement.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Oh there's no doubt it's a great technical achievement. The atmosphere and the characters and the story are compelling in a way only R* can seem to manage in a sandbox game...

It's just that it hasn't aged well from a gameplay point of view.

Fine, I'll admit the driving is rubbish.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

I liked the driving.. It was less arcadey than before but with practice and a gentle touch it was fine.

It's the poor movement/clunky shooting/crap cover/lack of checkpoints and everything else that feels so old compared to say how Sam moves in SC:C or Nathan in Uncharted 2.

Ah but they have checkpoints in TLAD and TBOGT. I assume they'll have em in Red Dead so.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

They did indeed.. Rubbish checkpoints that put you back in the map then made you access your phone and then get back into the action which was doubly annoying if failing the mission activated a phone call.

I'm hoping the 'dead aim/eye' bullet time helps make the shooting less clunky.

I'd imagine it will be more clunky if anything, given they'll go for authenticity and old west guns weren't the most accurate or reliable things going.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Imo, GTA IV is probably the greatest game ever made. I never say it because I get the reactions which are about to follow.

Well, you won't get one from me (at least not an adverse one anyway) because it's up to you what your favourite game is!

As far as criticizing GTA IV's control method is concerned - yes I am crap at the game, quite clearly. It was all meant in the context of the thread though, which is more to do with personal experience of games from the same development house as Red Dead Redemption and how that could affect whether I buy it or not. Stands to reason I've got to enjoy a game to get my money's worth, regardless of how good everyone else thinks it is! :D
