The PS3 is great games console first and foremost has the debatebly the best exclusives and definitly more of them as M$ takes it's eye off the ball.

Is being a great games console first and foremost going to be that relevant next gen? I mean, will we still see the same quality and focus on games from either Sony or Ms. Does it really matter who owns the most games studios when people are using consoles more for multi-media apps than games.


We have had some great games on both consoles this gen but very little innovation within the main stream. That's my biggest issue with this gen. I really couldn't careless if Sony's or Ms's next consoles can pour me a pint. I want to see more in the way of innovative games and with focus being primarily on multi-media functionality I can't see us getting that.

But Shirley that comes down to developers?, I mean Sony & MS will build what they think, but when it comes to innovation in gaming that's up to the developers, it is stagnating and like the film industry will only get worse! It's like a constant barrage of Michael Bay summer block busters.

The amount of multi-media functions on a console is only going to increase with the next-gen. Same goes for production costs; main cause in stunting innovation this gen. Obviously, theres the issue of the used market in relation to development and production costs versus profitable sales. With both Ms and Sony looking to definitively combat the used market in one way or another. Whilst it does make things better for developers as they get more of a financial return but it doesn't guarantee more in the way innovation. People still have to be willing to buy games and taking away the option to trade is just going to make people more choosey.

With the usage of multi-media functionality already outstripping games and the prospect of gamers having to be more picky about their purchases. Is it really in the best interest of developers to be forthcoming with innovation or go with what sells the most like they have done this gen.
