Havantgottaclue wrote:I suppose it depends how they package it up. If they release source code (doubtful) you could probably compile it not only on any Linux distro but any other Unix such as Solaris or FreeBSD (as long as the other necessary packages are in place or can be installed at the same time).

Given that that's unlikely it could either be distributed as a .deb or .rpm package which would run on Debian/Ubuntu or RedHat/SuSE/Mandriva etc. respectively. In fact there are some installers which are independent from the distro's package manager and therefore installs under any flavour of Linux.

The bigger problem is going to be the lack of DirectX - it looks as though there's a working version of Left4Dead 2 so obviously the Source Engine has been ported to OpenGL. I expect they're going to be looking at games that have been converted to Mac because I think those may use OpenGL.

So long as it happens and I don't have to use Windows any more or dual-boot I'll be happy.

Also do you work in I.T. Havant? Programmer?

No, I'm in the civil service! I used to muck about quite a bit with Linux during my university days, in the late 90s/early 2000s, when I had a bit more time on my hands.

Thought you said you "work" in the civil service?
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

LOL. At the moment I'm in the last year of a fast track programme so it is actually quite time-consuming (by civil service standards).

Not getting a lot of time to play games, or fiddle with my Raspberry Pi (oo-er). Still, a long weekend awaits so I'll be making up for lost time on Skyrim, I think.

They're not making you work 20 hours a week with no long lunches are they? The slave drivers...

I have only been in the civil service 3 and a half years so I'm not indoctrinated yet. It is quite a "unique" culture and one that I'm really not entirely in accord with yet.

My experience is that you don't get that many workshy people in the civil service these days. Rarely (i.e. never) do I get to enjoy port and cigars with a delegation from HM Treasury, sadly ... ;)

What you do get is petty squabbling, poor management, self-interestedness, egomania and blindness to long-term goals in abundance.

Probably I should fit in just fine. But at the moment I really don't like it at all.

Sadly I think you are probably bang on the money there, j2k.

Thank goodness for 360 forum for providing some light-hearted escapism ...

We've got a new boss at work, and bloody hell she is next to useless. You go to her with a specific question and she cannot make a decision about anything and her favourite phrase is 'it's a challenge'. Waste. Of. Space.

What's that got to do with disc-less gaming? :?

I like selling my games when I'm done with them, and I only ever buy games these days if they're under a tenner and it's on a whim. So no, disc-less would suck for me.

There's no way i'd go disc-less. I like to trade in my old games and get some money off a new one,and obviously I couldn't do that.
Plus I wouldn't trust publishers to make the games cheaper for download. Games On Demand is proof of this. Some of the games on there are ridiculously over-priced.
