For The Mag: Battlefield 3 Vs Modern Warfare 3

Postby 360_Mag_Dave on Wed Jul 27, 2011 9:58 am

Right, this is it. This is the big one. Which is going to be best? It's that simple. From everything you've seen so far, about both games, which is going to be the better game?

Let us know below and don't forget to vote! :D

Edit: I, Dan, have taken the 'Both' option away. The question wasn't what are you going to buy, it was which one do you think is going to be better, to which the answer cannot be 'both'.

So there. Ner.

Why isn't there an option for both?
I'll be getting both. BF3 for the campaign and MW3 for MP.
I've played BF:BC2 MP and didn't really like it. So i'll try BF3 MP. If I don't like it then i'll trade it in for MW3.
I'm not even slightly interested in the MW3 campaign. I wish they release the MP bit as a separate game for £25 or something as i'd just buy that.

Review score wise I thoroughly expect Battlefield 3 to ace it.

No doubt the Modern Warfare juggernaught will continue to trounce everything sales wise.

It's a bit PS2 era Pro Evo vs FIFA I expect where the better product isn't such a known entity to the casual CoD fan.

MW3 will have the more enjoyable SP experience. Yes it will be stupid and dumb but inherantly exiting and cinematic. As a movie fan thats what i like.

BF3's campaign looks like all campaigns set in the same place (ala MoH reboot), a bit dull IMO. Im sure it will be realistic and well put together but i just cant get exited about it.

As for MP, im sure that BF3, will be technically superior and absolutely blinding.

But as with BF:BC2, i just couldnt get into the MP and found CoD to be much more fun to just pick up and play. Its the immediacy that makes it more succesful IMO.

Heres the thing, i dont think they are comparable as some people like to imagine. They both do different things, especially MP wise. One is engrossing and team based, one is a quick shooting fix.

So in conclusion, there is room for both, and both are fine games.

ha...well thing is Bob, kinda, i just dont fully see the reason for comparison.

Plus im likely to be told by all and sundrie that BF3 is a superior game and im a heathen for liking CoD more. I am fully prepared for this.

To give a crude analogy, yes Lobster thermador is technically more accomplished and a much better prepared food, but id sooner have scampi and chips any day of the week.

Maybe it's because they are both first person shooters set in modern times? Just a hunch I've got about this.

Plus (and I don't want to set Septic off again) EA are clearly aiming it at taking a slice of the CoD pie.

In fact I bet this article is being sponsored by EA. They probably bought Dave a Happy Meal.

Indeed JS, that would be it i suppose. But tonally the games are so different.

I think even BF fans would have to agree that when BF tries to copy CoDs bombast (its signature thing), thats when its games are weakest. They are best of ploughing thier own furrow if you ask me.

I will be getting both, but I am more excited about BF3. I'll be getting MW3 through peer pressure to be honest since most of my mates are too blinkered to see how brilliant the Battlefield games are. I hope BF3 gives CoD a right good hiding sales wise, but I just can't see it happening.

Hmmmm, i'm not sure BFBC2 was copying CoD, more a tongue in cheek piss take.

Amusingly page 50 of Issue 87 calls the comparison of B3 vs MW3 like comparing triangles and squares..

Well thats the problem isnt it JS, it took the piss saying stuff like "snowmobiles are for pussies" but none of its vehicle sections ever matched the insanely fun heights of the snowmobile section in MW2.

My point is, when BC2 tried the big action set pieces they just didnt match up in terms of quality and it felt like me-too-ism on the developers behalf. BC2 surely suceeds more when it was being its own game.

I have to agree... The first BC single player was much better than the second purely because it didn't try to be "serious"...

Though I did enjoy the section with the tanks.
