TYPO CORNER

Postby Dan Howdle on Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:30 pm

Yep, it's the place where you get put the typos, point the finger and show us how rubbish we all are ;)

Seriously, though, not only will it be quite fun, but it will also be hugely helpful to us; as we strive to tighten that nut, it'll be useful to know where we're still leaking, or whether that last half-turn 'got it'.

Remember, this is about improving the mag, so don't feel bad about giving us a light flaming; a little fencing will make things better for everyone; us, you, the office giraffe.

Isn't that something that should be done, er, before the mag comes out?
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Four separate sets of eyes go over each word, but things are still missed on occasion. To be fair, the last Stephen King novel I read was littered with typos, and even more sets of eyes will have passed that, and they'll have had a lot more than two days in which to do it.

The point is if we can get a handle on the type of things that are being missed - if there is a pattern - then we can tighten the nut in those specific areas.

Most ones I spot seem to be where there were changes to a phrase and the sentence no longer flows as the grammar is based on the old phrase.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

I'll point out stuff when/if I see it, but you won't get a flaming. The only criticism worth listening to is constructive criticism, after all.

Criticise the work, not the man, as I always say ;)

We need to learn when to say "enough", rather than gluttonously devouring more and more of the same thing through sheer force of habit.

Is it only important typos you want to know about, or just any we notice?

For instance, in issue 80 in the summary box for Bulletstorm's review the developer was spelt wrongly as "People Cna Fly". I didn't think it was worth mentioning because it was a one-off.

People Can Fly might have something to say about that...
