Got any ideas for the magazine? Post them here.

Microsoft points coversion into Pounds

Postby bas6344 on Wed Sep 29, 2010 1:33 pm

Would it be possible to have a small table somewhere in the pages of the mag letting us know how many Microsoft points there are to the Pound, every issue there are games on offer through arcade and new DLC content all with a value attached of Microsoft points.

Are there 100 MS points to a pound?
Have they increased or decreased in value since their introduction?
Are they capable of falling and rising like a real currency?

I don't think it's changed and it depends where you get your MS points from. I get them online and it works out at roughly 100 points to a quid.

Or you could possibly working it out for yourself by dividing the number of points by the amount of pounds charged? What do they teach these kids in fcuking school these days?

As far as I'm aware if you buy them directly off the M$ they've been the same set price since launch.

As with anything else the laws of competition decree that if you buy them from other vendors some element of competition will allow varying prices but they ain't like a stock market.. 800 points will always buy 800 points of content.

You'll also find that the letter B comes after the letter A in the alphabet.

He's got a point, excuse the pun,... I don't bother with X360 DLC because of this stupid points system.
I'm numerically dyslexic so I just avoid it.
It's a stupid system anyway.

"The points allow users to purchase content without a credit card, and reduce the number of small credit card transaction fees which Microsoft would otherwise pay."

Taken from 1UP.com:

Unfortunately, this forces me to deal with one of XBL's more annoying quirks: the inability to pay exact amounts for content. Microsoft forces users to purchase arbitrary Microsoft Point bundles, inconvenient (and expensive) when purchasing content on a regular basis.
While on the phone with Xbox 360 group product manager Aaron Greenberg about the recent dashboard update, I decided to ask why this simple annoyance hasn't been cleared up yet.

"The reason why we do that, the core reason, is around credit card transaction fees," said Greenberg. "If we do this in bulk, we don't have to burden the consumer with the transaction fees, or ourselves or publishers. It's about keeping infrastructure costs down and I know sometimes it's frustrating because you end up with odd points, but we don't have any plans to change that."

If this is what they want to do then why not have points be worth the same as pence?

No credit fees and its still MS points but its also nice and clear.

I assume so they don't have to deal with the exchange rate.
