Pirates: in an adventure with scientists

Not Aardman at thier very best but still great fun. Gets an extra point for including a great use of Flight Of The Conchords.

HUGO 3D.
Got this today, what a stunning looking slice of modern cinematography, Scorsese uses 3D in a way that has made this film stand out in more ways than one. A strange story that feels more like a vechile for Marty to share his love and passion for the art and wonder of film making,
I really enjoyed it and can see why it gained so much praise.

BIt of a round up.

The Reader - ****

Not the cheeriest of films but very watchable. Great performance from Winslet.

Fireflies in the Garden - *** and a half.

Again not very cheery but Reynolds is always watchable.

The Thing - **

Never seen this Carpenter 'classic' before but the special effects haven't aged well.

Despicable Me - **

Dull.

The Thing is awesome on a dark night and not getting pestered by the other half ( I noticed that 98% of wimmin dont like or 'get' the film at all ) and you're just miserable if you found Despicable Me dull

You'll be shopping at Waitrose next Bob :P

Despicable Me is just fantastic. One of my favourite animated films. Good job too, the way the kids abuse the Bluray.

Bob obviously know as much about a good film as he does a good game.... ;-)

The Thing, stone cold classic, visual effects that still creep the fuck out of me made by one of the masters.

Despicable me, probably one of the best animated films I've seen, one that shits all over pixars latest offerings.

Bob I suggest you save your none gaming time for the x factor of just watch Britains got mental weirdos. ;-)

Watched this last night and I couldn't agree more. The setting and visuals are amazing and you do get drawn in by the quaint story. Normally not my sort of thing but I really enjoyed it.

You should all go and watch it again. Then try and form your own opinion. Then come back and admit that, as usual, I'm right.

Watched it not that long ago and whilst yes, SOME of the special effects have become dated (spotting the polystyrene) most hold up well enough, the atmosphere is still solid and it remains a classic with some solid ideas at play.

You're entitled to your opinion. Wrong as it is.

I'm normally particularly jumpy and suceptible to a good horror. In this I didn't see a single effect that didn't look dated.. It wasn't scary.. The cold war paranoia thing isn't particularly relevant any more. The actors aren't great.. It just hasn't aged well. It may have been a classic in it's day. I'd suggest that day is long past. It didn't hold my interest particularly either.

I got it on Blu ray fairly recently & other than the stop motion Thing that Kurt Russel blows up at the end, the whole film still stands up incredibly well.

Besides the film isn't about what happens & what you see, its in the tension between these isolated people & what you think you saw or might happen?.

Just that one bass note in the soundtrack, has more weight & horror than any of the so called modern thrillers! that's been made since.

And as per usual, you're the only one who thinks he's right. :D

I saw it on Sky HD and I don't think the films particularly suited to it.

There's lots of stop motion and there's lots of very unconvincing plasticy faces and rubbish dog monsters.

I'd agree about the tension and chemistry between the characters but they all seem to think shouting is a good substitute for acting.. Kurt Russell, bless him, is not one of the greats.

Like I said I don't think it's aged well.
