The Elevator scene was interesting to say the least.

I watched it for the second time and in it's probably even better.

Tinker Tailor. It's okay, but tries a bit too hard. Oldman is excellent.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Tries too hard to do what? Not being cheeky CT, just interested.

It's full of wonderful period detail and it's obviously an excellent story but if Clown means it tries a bit too hard to be worthy then I think he's probably right.

Okie dokie.

Thought it was a really efficient, clever and effective thriller IMO. Didn't see much worthiness it it myself. Look at a movie like The Help and you can see a movie thats aching to be Oscar nommed. Here you have a movie thats so understated and subtle, with no emotional signposting.

I had the benefit of seeing it prior to the award hype though, maybe that attaches more baggage to it?

I meant just it tries too hard to be subtle, complex (when it isn't) and moody. Still a good film, mind.

Saw Drive today. Wonderful film. Unreal in a brilliantly cinematic way.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe.

Was a bit surprised by this one, as I wasn't actually expecting much from it. Turned out that it is actually really good, also it was fun watching it with my son. So happy times all round!

Just Go With It - ***

If you *ahem* ignore the ridiculous premise and just go with it this is quite a funny Adam Sandler rom-com.

Indecent Proposal - ***

More to it than you'd imagine and good performances from the central trio.

Just watched Soldier, Saloir, Tinker, Spy on blu-ray.

Was again, impressed with its subtleness and its quiet excellence. Its a bundle of contradictions, i.e. Its plot is complex but simple, the pace is slow but a lot happens, the movie is efficient (comes in under 2 hours) but not rushed.

Gary Oldman really is a proper actor. Theres only 2 deleted scenes (shows how efficient the screenplay is). One of which is Gary Oldman frying and eating an egg.... thats it!. It isnt Gary Oldman though, it looks like an old man, frying and eating an egg. The whole movie really is about what he doesnt say, rather than what he does say. There more acting in the one scene with Ricky Tarr than most big movies manage in the whole running time.

Its great to see this do so well at the UK Box office, typically a film like this would sink without trace, but word of mouth really pulled in the punters.

Certainly one of the best movies of 2011. But not for everyone, patience and a lvel of intuition is required.

In other news i bought Senna on DVD and will watch it ASAP. Lovefilm took it off thier list so i had no choice.

Erm, It's never been on there dude. They've had a dispute with Universal since 2009. You could only buy it thru Amazon.

Also, are you taking the piss with the title of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy?!

The Game

Is this Finchers most under-rated movie? Well no, thats the peerless Zodiac. But being wedged between the definitive serial killer movie Se7en and the definitive satire on consumer culture/machismo Fight Club cant have helped this little gem.

The concept is interesting (if unrealistic at times), the acting is superb(Douglas really making the character symptahic, despite his twattishness at the start), its plot twists arnt telegraphed and in most cases are unexpected.

I havent seen this in about 5-10 years and i honestly really enjoyed it.

4/5

I seem to remember it being very exciting if a tad far fetched.
