Moonrise Kingdom

A very typical Wes Anderson movie about young love. Amusingly discribed by one critic as "Wes Andersons First Blood".

A clutch of good performances especially from the young leads and the Anderson newcomers Bruce Willis and Ed Norton. Whimsically amusing, rather than laugh out loud funny.

Reccomended for fans

Super 8 - *** and a half.

It's a bit like a cross between The Goonies and ET-ish..

Really captures that exact period where the 70s where about to become the 80s. Looks great.. although I thought the train crash was a bit over done.

Good peformances from most of the young characters.. except for the fat kid. Who was a bit rubbish.

I really liked Super 8, its very E.T. That sweeping score in association with the tragic and redemptive events actually welled me up for the first time in ages.

I saw it at movies and the train bit was THE LOUDEST thing i have ever heard in a cinema (tron Legacys score being the 2nd), it was uncomfortably loud.

And your right, for $50 million its looks a lot better than most movies with 2/3 times the budget.

JJ has a good eye for it I'd say. Also the attention to detail was great.

The plot.. a bit bobbins (Would the Government and the army really go to such great lengths to cover up an escaped alien? and why was it killing the army guys and storing the good guys? Was that the telepathy??).. and I thought the making the film bit was a bit laboured.. but overall I really enjoyed it

I recently saw Super 8 and also liked it although I thought the way it tried to make you feel sympathetic to the creature (just because it wanted to go home, like ET!) was a bit off as it went round killing/eating people.

Id agree, i think actually the alien bits are the least interesting. The human scenes are the better ones.

I thought it was all excellent up until the monster was actually shown. The mystery bit.. the cuboid things.. the cold war paranoia.. all good. JJ at least understood that and didn't reveal the alien until the very late.

Decent, satisfyingly funny grown up rom-com. Essential for fans of Anne Hathaways breasts or Jake Gylenhaals arse.

Watched it last night. Liked it. Despite the blatant product placement..

Jeez we are agreeing Bob...im scared, whats happening?

By Product placemnt do you mean the drugs? If so, isnt it kinda vital to the story. KInda like making a Richard Branson documentary and removing references to Virgin?

The drugs was one thing.. They could've gone with fictional products? Surely? But mostly I meant the bottles of Bud that Jake was constantly clutching label out.

The Inbetweeners.
Some very funny scenes, no question and the old cliché of Brits abroad actually worked in this instance. But I did lose interest half way through and sort of watched it between sketching.
