Yeah good team performance tonight. They finally looked like they are playing for each other, rather than a bunch of individuals.

That first half was a load of arse tho, and I needed about five poos to get rid of the nerves.

Italy here we come...

Defensively England looked as sound as they did against France, if they keep that up consistently then they could squeeze past Italy too, who didn't look too special against Ireland.

It starts.....3 mediocre performances, 1 decent result and the "England - Champions of the Universe" banners are hastily being dusted off.

For once the expectations before a tournament matched reality, yet all of a sudden normal business has resumed.

Italy v England has the potential to be the most boring game of football ever! Two mediocre, defensive teams trying to bore each other into submission!

Ps - I should add that this rant isn't directed at anyone on here but more in the direction of Chiles, Carragher et al

Yeah you're right, I'm taking the hopeful but realistic stance, England v Italy will be lucky to have any normal time goals in it. Rooney is at it too, " There's no reason we can't go all the way" , " We're not scared of Spain" blah blah blah. Gerrard and Hodgson seem to have in mind Englands most likely finish.

They didn't look that great in defence when John Terry was clearing one from behind the goal line.

Well thing is, they are at least hard working fo once. Id take that over the lazyness of the world cup performance.

But it still cant be denyed that we are a below-par footballing side that will get turned over by any good side on a good day. We have no creativity, no spark, we dont look like scoring at any point.

Im not hopeful of our chances against Italy, but im at least plaesed about the passion the players now have.

True, but they did look better in defense than they did against Sweden.

Er, England were shockingly poor yesterday. Not sure why THE ENTIRE WORLD didn't seem to notice. Lucky for them they were in the group of life.

They'll need to play better to beat Italy anyroad.
If in doubt, put the kettle on.

Yes but you could pick holes in most teams defences in this tournament. Not one team has shone that brilliantly imo. I thought overall in the game England defended well against a host nation who really needed to win to stay in the tournament.

They were poor yet still won. Yes, they were lucky with the no goal decision, most teams will get a bit of luck go for and against them in a tournament. And they still would of gone through if the goal stood, so it's a bit of moot point to bring it up.

England have a pretty average team if compared to Spain, Germany, France, Italy. But games aren't won soley on who has the best players on paper. Greece and Denmark have won this tournament before without having the best players, so why not England? They did beat Spain back in November. Personally, I don't think England will win it, but they have a decent chance now.

That's be the goal that came from an offside pass the linesman missed? Play should never have got that far.

Well if you're going to split hairs ;)

That wasn't the only time they looked poor in defense in my opinion.

But it's not their only problem. They really seem to have no idea what to do with the ball in general.

From where I'm sitting that is very optimistic. I don't want England to win. If England won this, I'd go into hiding, baton down the doors and go LALALALALALALALACAN'THEARYOU.
