Is that in best or worse? It's got nothing on the NiN version.

That cover I posted into MM&TV is my favourite at the minute.

I also quite like the Babyshambles and friends Janie Jones cover

And surprisingly the Fratelis cover of All Along the Watchtower is great.

As for the worst,

Come on Gugly, even Trent Reznor knows Cash's cover is better than the original.

You joking? Cash's is really good, and I do like it. But when it comes down to it I'd much rather see this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvJKVKglIRs&ob=av2n) live.

You are entitled to your opinion Gug.. I know you're emo so I'd expect you to like the original 'no one understands me' NIN version to be better.... we're not even talking about cover versions being better than the original here (although you could argue, as I would, that it is) just good cover versions.. it does something different with the song, it strips right down to the pain and anguish, but you know the life that Cash had still makes him connect to the song.. all those things make it the go to cover version for a list of best cover versions.

There are many, many covers I prefer to the originals. That Gotye cover is one of my favourite pieces of music at the minute. Maybe if you'd take your head out your ass every now and then you'd realise not everything has to be in some sort of stereotype. I s'pose the thousands of other people who prefer the original are angsty, emo teens who are just misunderstood eh?

I just wouldn't put it in amongst the best cover versions.

Oh, and if you're going to start a paragraph with "You are entitled to your opinion", I would advise not going on to attack it as it makes you look like nothing other than a prick.

I wasn't attacking you're opinion. Merely stating what mine was when I nominated it and then justifying it with why I thought it was a good cover version. It's the basis of reasonable debate.

I was also pointing out that you can like the original and still appreciate a good cover.

3 best off top of my head.

1. Stevie Wonder - we can work it out (quite possibly better than the brilliant origional)
2. The Communards - Dont leave me this way., a great mowtown track jazzed up to an 80s classic.
3. Ben Folds and William Shatner - Common People. Dont laugh, this retains all the wit and charm of the origional in a fresh musical style.

3 worst:

1. All Saints - Under the Bridge. Whilst i respect the fact they tried to do the cover in a different genre. Its still a horrible abhoration of a decent song.
2. Will Young - Light My Fire. Again at least its in a different genre but did this Rolling Stones classic need a scat solo?
3. Robbie Williams - We are the champions. No passion, no spirit...
